my kid has been in this preschool since N1. while N1 i thought it was only ok… nothing fantastic… the experience with the school in N2 and K1 got worse.

esp the english teachers didnt seem as patient and passionate and in a year they kept changing the english teachers which I feel is very disruptive to the kid. several times teachers also do not communicate properly to the kid or parents / guardian. some of the teacher are quite blur but yet defensive over their blurness which I absolutely hate.

to be fair since N1, all the chinese teachers are very good. very passionate with the kids. but unfortunately good english teachers are far from few.

they go on several field trips but after each trip there is no update on how the field trip went or they also dont send us pictures on the trip. and almost every field trip, they are brought to McDonald’s for lunch which I feel is rather unhealthy. They have a portal which you need to pay and twice a year they will update the portal on the progress of your child. there are some photos in it but its distorted and you cant even download them. I dont understand why we need to pay for a portal that is not informative or interactive at all. Plus the update is only twice a year.

During a meet the parents session, the teachers are supposed to run through the portal on what they had updated about your child. One year, the teacher who seemed to have difficulty in scrolling the portal, told us ‘You are better with this. You can login and surf and read it yourself’. That’s it! We took leave to attend the MPS and that is all she told us. Freaking waste of our leave!

the principal is a very motherly person but i feel not responsive enough. its hard to reach her via the phone. emailing her also will take her ages to reply. sometimes after weeks i have to send her email reminders b4 she reply. in the current world, i think slow response for emails are really not acceptable.

and already the lesson is short (3 hrs) which include morn assembly with prayer session, breakfast, study and play. Basically that 3 hours is very rush so I think academic wise, its not really sufficient. Yet they squeezed in a 1 hour IT lesson from K1 onwards during lesson. This is optional and you need to pay extra for it. I feel this should not be conducted during lesson unless its not chargeable. Most of the kids attend so if I do not let my kid attend, he feels left out. This is perfectly fine if the paid lesson is held after their 3 hours class.

the only thing i love about the school is the physical environment. clean and conducive for the child to play and grow. other than that the way the school operates as well as the pool of english teachers they have… they need to buck up by a lot.

I’m in the midst of considering pulling my boy out. Now I am quite torn. Not sure where should I put my child in. Gotta do some work…

2 yrs ago my buddy pulled her boy out from this preschool and I couldnt understand why. Now I can fully understand why she did that.

my 3 kids attend Covenant Kindy. The oldest has graduated while the younger 2 are still studying there.

the teachers have changed quite a bit and i agree with lilacwhite. The chinese teachers are loving to the children and passionate in their teaching. But the turnover for english teachers is high. i feel that the english teachers are not as caring (at least for the N1/2).but that's just my own opinion. In the past, there will always be a follow up letter to inform parents of a change in teachers (very few and far between). Now, maybe the changes are more frequent, we are not even in the know when there are new teachers. I only found out that my child has new teachers when I visited the school (my kids take schoolbus) or when my child tells me about it.

the academic part of the school is not very rigourous. but they do make sure the kids are ready for P1.

enrichment wise--always the same places. there are more exciting/relevant venues the school can bring them to. agree with lilacwhite about the macdonalds part. 🙂 But to my kids that is the highlight of the fieldtrip so i shall let it go 🙂

snack: i wrote a few years back (check previous posts) that their snacks could be better. Last time it was only muffins/cornflakes. Now slight improvement--there is porridge twice a week if i am not wrong.

                hi clio clio!

I also feel the quality of english teachers are not so good and passionate. there was one orientation i met up with the english teacher. i can hardly hear what she talk face to face. when she was writing me a receipt for the school fee, she was shivering. OMG! I came home and told my mum that if I were to use one finger to tap on her shoulder, I think she will fall. Not that I want to be mean but really so soft and so scared how to handle these kids? Fortunately when the school term opens, she left and another english teacher replaced. Though the replacement teacher is also not very good but anytime beats the one i saw at the orientation. sigh.

my boy doesnt really fancy mcdonalds burger or nuggets. he is more like an ah pek who needs his staple rice n noodle. so every field trip by the time he gets home at 2+pm, he is super famished. I packed him some snacks to go on his field trip since he doesnt eat much of McDonalds but the teachers refuse to let him bring it. The teacher told my mum they didn’t want the kid to feel stress having to bring their bags along for the trip. I think its more like the teachers feel stress having to account for their belongings! Isnt it a good chance for the kid to learn to be responsible for their own belongings?

i signed my boy up for enrichment, left the form in his bag before the term ends. the teachers didnt check his bag. new school term started n they did not bring him for the enrichment class. my mum who is the caregiver did not turn up after the usual timing as she was aware he has enrichment class. they brought him to the admin office at 11am after class ended to wait for my mum. 12noon they called me to say my mum didnt pick my boy. I asked if they called my mum and they claimed they did but couldnt reach her. I was quite upset by then. they dont need to take 1 hour to call me when they cannot reach my mum right?

Coming three years… i only have praises for the chinese teachers.

my kid graduated in 2017. I feel that the teachers are caring and that’s was important to me. academics wise, I think they prepare enough to get the child ready for primary 1
