Dear parents of sec 1 kiddos,
Fret not if you cannot find the guide book for your kid's Lit text.
Just do a google \"study guide for xxx\" and you will be amazed at the array of links. Most of them can be accessed for free.
Secondly, you can go down to the second hand book stores at Bras Basah Complex. They contain a treasure trove of guide books. Some with hand written notes too!
Hope this helps!

The members here have been helpful to me too ... -
Not sure if any school is using this book by Markus Zusak. The title is 'The book Thief'.
DS and myself are reading this book leisurely. The language is totally beautiful and the plot so luring. Cannot let a good book slip through your fingers, highly recommended to your DC... enjoy

My dd needs help for Literature! She got 9/25 for lit paper & only 12 in her class failed. I am worried as Lit/SS is her only humanities subject in her L1R5. She has asked me to get a Lit tutor for her. I don't know if it will help to get a tutor at this stage.
dd said she has difficulty in understanding what her teacher's comments were. She told me she had difficulty scoring well under this new teacher. Dh read thru her answers & teacher's comments & agreed with the teacher's. Dh found that she's not clear in her explanations & analysis of the content. The Lit book that she's taking is \"roll of Thunder, Hear my cry\".
Does anyone know of any good resources to tap on or even a good Lit tutor for this book? :?: -

Perhaps your husband should take her through the teacher's comments in detail and show her how she should have answered? I don't know what Lit tutors do, but being shown how might be sufficient. She could also see if she can borrow the answers of someone who did well and compare with her own? -

Unlike the Red Sky in the Morning, at least this Roll of Thunder has resources aplenty. I'm still looking for resources for Red Sky. -
Hi, thanks for sharing. Will take time to go thru them with dd. Really appreciate it.

I was thinking of even reading the book myself (still got bit of time before Os) & going thru the guides avail. But my English/Lit is not so good either. ....:P -

It's good to read the book too (and it's a good book!). Even if you feel your Lit is not good, just talking about the story, characters, drawing comparisons with similar events etc will stimulate your child's thinking and appreciation of the book. I make a point of always reading my kids' Lit books (which reminds me that there are 2 I need to reread because I read them about 20-30 yrs ago). I don't 'study' or 'teach' them, but will talk about the books as and when something happens which is a parallel or when they are doing an assignment.Hi, thanks for sharing. Thanks for the encouragement. Will try my best but i am really not a humanities person. I will enjoy solving maths more.

I wonder if there are any books like ten year series where we can have an idea of d kind of model answers? -

Roll of Thunder, Hear my Cry is actually not a difficult book to understand, when you pull Shakespearean literature into the equation (of which the unabridged versions are near impossible to process without explanation for secondary school students). With that established, don't lose hope! Your DD just needs better notes to go on.My dd needs help for Literature! She got 9/25 for lit paper & only 12 in her class failed. Sparknotes.com is a fantastic literary guide with tons of comprehensive notes on many literature texts. You can also try simply googling the title of the book along with the word 'essay' or 'analysis' and thousands of hits will show up. You'll have to trawl through the extraneous info to identify what may be useful for your DD.
