Henry Park Primary

Hi, any one staying at Jurong east Toh Guan area and has kids going to Henry Park next year. DO you know what time school bus comes and is it morning or afternoon session? Also how are the teachers at the school? My son is weak in Chinese. English reading so so with high frequency words but cant really write long sentences yet.
How are you guys preparing your son for this school? My hubby is the old boy so should more or less get into this school. When does orientation starts? Hope to know more fellow mummies here:) -

Henry Park primary (HPPS)I was surfing HPPS website and found an astonishing trend in the PSLE results.
I copied it and did some https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AkDXJtO0LwKEdFdOb3UtcHZhdGN2WTh5a2pMZ2hqY2c&usp=sharing.
Basically for the past 2 years, in year 2013,
the number of A & A* for the 3 most important subjects has fallen by as much as 15% as compared to 2011.
% difference of number of A & A* for HPPS, in year 2013 compared to 2011
English: -9.49%
Maths: -8.03%
Science: -15.76%
This is the % difference for Singapore for that same period.
English: 0.23%
Maths: 4.14%
Science: -3.45%
I am very concerned how the school is going to reverse the declining trend and am very tempted to drop an email to our principal.
PSLE Performance 2013 (born 2001 : year of Snake)
Quality Percentage (A / A*) Passes (%)
Subject A/A*,\t HPPS 2013 : overall combined (Mainstream + GEP), \t \tNational Standard (for all Primary schools in Singapore) \t\t
\t\t
Chinese : \t79.9 % (combined), \t\t77.8 %
English \t67.7 % (combined),\t\t44.4 %

Malay : \t87.5 % (combined),\t\t73.6 %\t\t
Tamil :\t 88.9 % (combined),\t\t77.6 %\t
======================================================================
Maths : \t63 % (combined), \t\t45.3 %
Science : \t63.6 % (combined),\t\t42 %
HPPS school did not breakdown info into Mainstream alone vs. combined with GEP.
unable to illustrate Mainstream performance, alone. -
hi,
Any one has kids going this school in 2015? Hope to know you here.
I stay at Jurong area. Any one around the same area? -
HI Piang25,
I'm also deciding if to enrol my girl to HPPS... There's no bus service form Punggol hence that's the only and impt concern I have. Will be in phrase 2A2 if I enrol... *headache* on the transportation.. :slapshead:piang25:
Hi all,
My son might be in P1 next year in Henry Park. Does anyone know of any transport options between Seletar Hills / Sengkang area to the school? The school bus operator currently doesn't come to my area. So I'm wondering if there's any private bus operators whom anyone might know of? Or car pool?
I understand that P1 is currently in the afternoon session. Any idea if it will likewise be so for next year's intake?
Thanks much for your advice! -
Hi! We are considering enrolling our son into Henry Park. However we would like to know more about the school in terms of environment, staff-students interaction, if there is a variety of school activities (not CCA) such as excursions, in-school activities, etc. Would appreciate it very much if parents can share their views and experiences with the school. Thanks

Personal opinion, the school is not worth the travel if living far away. If nearby, then ok. -

Environment:
Lots of facilities. 7-storey building with lifts. Micro school football field, 2 lane running track wrapping around the school. 2 'kidszone' to run and lineup.
Activities: Learning journey about 2-3 times a year. Parents can volunteer and follow. They go factories, zoo, bird park etc. -
Thank you for your response.
Other than facilities and infrastructure, is this school student centred? Are the staff caring, approachable and genuinely interested in students not only in academic results but also social development? Or do they overlook students who underperform or who tend to be playful/ naughty?
Thanks -

In this regard, to be frank, all schools are the same. My DS transferred to this school from a neighbourhood school and I think the professionalism of teachers from both schools are the same. Education-wise, I honestly don't know what the hooha about HPPS is...it's really just another neighbourhood school in a more elite neighbourhood!Thank you for your response.

Sometimes I regret taking DS out of his old school which we used to walk him to. Now at HPPS, he needs to wake up by 6am to get the school bus which comes at 630am - results in the whole family being tired and grumpy because we also have to wake up with him.
Honestly, just stick to the school nearest your home - All Schools are really, good schools! -

That micro football field is such a joke...my DS loves football, was in his previous school team, after joining HPPS, training in that micro field, he gave up - he says it's no different than the futsal field in our estate...tccfairmont:

And the learning journeys, again, no different from neighbourhood schools, I think we actually had a bit more in his last school, but mainly because we live in a more industrial/rural part of Singapore, so more convenient for his old school to organise excursions to nearby businesses...I'm still waiting for HPPS to organise a farm excursion...
