Hi fellow parents,
my hub is old-boy, n we did not join alumni, I suppose we shd be able to join phase 2A2, but how is the chance with the new rule that some % need to be left for non-related ties?
Roysth is about 3km away, but my issue is with the sch bus, will we need to wake up early? my son is gg to be in P1 two yrs later, but want to start researching now.
ANyone stay in Sengkang?
Is rosyth back to its new premises n single session??? -

I think chances are still quite high. If not, have a back-up school. Rosyth is back to its original premises already. By next year, shld be all AM session although they have yet to confirm. I stay in Punggol and I’m also worried abt sch bus, although most likely, my hb will be fetching my kid to school at least for the first few years. I don’t like the fact that there is no direct bus there, and I suspect if my kid takes school bus, he will have to wake up real early. By car, Rosyth is abt 10 mins drive from Punggol during off-peak. Haven’t tried driving around 7am in the morning yet. -

1. What are some secondary schools that students from roysth usually go to? One teacher from pro teach told me it is rare for any non gep student from roysth to go to nanyang girls, rgs, ri… Is it true? That standard in roysth is so low?
2. What is PSLE score range that non gep students get from roysth? Again the teacher says about 230-240… Is it true? As I thought roysth standard should be quite high?

I do not have the statistics for Rosyth and would not be able to comment on the performance of Rosyth.
However, I would like to share my opinions pertaining to your questions.
1. Students making it to nygh, rgs, ri will require a minimum tscore of 259 (base on 2013 PSLE), 1 point above the EESIS for that year. EESIS is generally believed to be awarded to the top 3% of the cohort, as such students that could make it to the three schools that you mentioned are deemed to be within the top 3% of their cohort. GEP students are generally believed to be the top 1~1.5% of their cohort base on the P3 selection test.
Assuming the GEP students have maintained their performance, hence, theoretically only 1.5% ~2% of the mainstream cohort will enter the three schools that you have mentioned. Taking a cohort size of 310 (360 - 50 GEP) students, 2% will be equivalent to 6.2 students. So, if more than 6 students from Rosyth mainstream enter the three said schools base on 2013 PSLE, then Rosyth would have performed better than the average schools. On the other hand, not all top students will choose to go to these three schools.
2. PSLE tscore range, I believe no school ever disclose the range especially since 2012 when the schools stop publishing their top scorer. For your info, the PSLE median scores range between 160 and 240 for the 2012 batch (mainstream), disclosed in a reply by Mr Heng to Mr Hri Kumar Nair.

To me, a tscore of between 230-240 is commendable and is within the top 30% of the cohort though this score could not land the student in an IP school. -

Dear TT Tan, this is not the first time you have been asking questions abt Rosyth n the impression that I got is you think Rosyth is not a good enuf school for you although many of us have already assured you based on our own personal experiences.
I can see that you strongly believe all the negative comments that you have received from your friends n sources without any concrete evidence.
May I suggest that you start looking at other schools that you deemed not to be a neighbourhood school but produces only top students (as that seems to be your primary concern while looking for a primary school for your child).

Non gep getting 230-240 is not high ? It's really good already.. Psle in this few years are unlike many years before .. It's getting tougher .. A lot of parents are doing everything they can to get into this school .. If you feel your kid can do better , pls send her to another better school and give the rest this fighting chance of getting in.. -

Is not easy to get above 235.
Past years PSLE questions set were tough.
If child can get 235 to 240, is considered good.
But those who target \"IP\" Secondary schools -
should aim for at least 260.
In the event din achieve 260 and fall below, at least can fall back to above 250.
There are some \"IP\" Sec schools that admit students in, at lower end of 25X range. -

So far I have only spoken to one parent with kid from roysth 2 weeks ago and she says the kid is struggling with all the homework and school gives ridiculously high standard of work, not that the kid is stupid but because they are tested on things that are not taught. She concluded that if the kid is not in gep then will end up average .. Unless your family comes from super rich background that can afford tuition for all subjects and super duper enrichment class. Like I mentioned before another friend told me his kid in xx branded school is also hearsay. End of the day is a competition of who can afford better tuition or quality enrichment, is a game for the rich....
Imagine if you are in my position as a new parent,.... Would be quite uncertain after hearing from these friends right... But you are right also to say would I be stupid to give up a place in a branded school when everyone is fighting to go in... Is a tough decision to make... Unlike choosing for a childcare you can go in, talk to teachers, observe the environment, etc... Primary schools are close doors.... Can't really talk to school, or go in to see, etc.. So just got to depend on word of mouth -

you may ask your school Principal in detail, to show you how the Mainstream itself alone performed (strip off those 2 GEP classes), for past 3 years PSLE 2011 to 2013 batch :-
Total number of students sat for PSLE, in that year.
- % of pupils scored above 260,
- % of pupils scored above 250,
- % of pupils scored 240 to 249.
- % of pupils scored 230 to 239.
- % of pupils scored 220 to 229.
from these % figures & the Total number of pupils sat for exam per batch -
you can calculate backwards the actual number of students, falling within each range.

you can also tell where are majority of Mainstream Rosyth pupils falling into which range of T-score ?
No doubt below 250 cannot enter \"IP\" Secondary 1 schools :-
But there are some Secondary schools around, with good \"O\" level track.
(If T score below 250)
Normally, Principal of Rosyth school will inform Upper primary P5 / P6 parents + pupils how the school performed, during some parents' school meeting.
Lower primary : P may or may not disclose.
Maybe can request P to breakdown info into Mainstream alone vs. GEP students alone.
You may approach either P or VP, for more info.
(should be able to obtain info, since you're already an existing parent of Rosyth.
As parent of Rosyth, you've the right to know. Not for outsiders.
This apply not only to Rosyth.
Every parent whose child is studying in their respective primary school -
ought to know how their own school performed.
Particularly those studying : P4 to P6)

I agree with you, share the same concern as you.
Due to presence of GEP students, the results might have been camoflauged.
In fact, parents are more concerned with Mainstream.
Because GEP only 2 classes. Max only around 50 students, each GEP class around 25.
But how many P6 Mainstream classes in Rosyth ?
definitely exceed 2 classes, & don't forget one Mainstream class got around 40 students ?
size of one Mainstream class already far exceed that of one GEP class.
the majority, or the bulk of it, are still the Mainstream students.
I mean ... If my child is not a Gepper, shouldn't I be more concerned with how the teachers teach Mainstream ?
Parents from other GEP centre(s), do share the same concern, as you.
So don't be afraid.
Just approach your P politely, for data.
