what should P1 student bring for their 1st day of school
-
My boy is on afternoon session… I’ll let him have lunch before he goes to school… and probably pack some snack during the break/recess time…
All schools having diff stds these days… it’s so hard to even ask around to get info :x :x -
Things to bring for mommies on the 1st day of school:
1. Camera/camcorder to capture every living moment of the day that will never be repeated again… so that you can embarass your child during his/her wedding with shots of him/her crying for mommy.
2. Sunglasses in case your child’s form teacher recognises you later as the kiasu aunty who tried to get the best seat in the front of the class for your kid. Can also substitute with brown paper bags.
3. Hankies in case your emotions get the better of you when you see your child buy his/her own food by him/herself for the 1st time in your life. Useful also as a makeshift cap for your kid in case it rains during assembly, by tying the 4 corners into knots.
4. Paper fan and make-shift stools for jargaring outside the classroom. It can be pretty hot and tiring standing for so long.
5. Fake blow-up-doll look-alike of yourself to be positioned strategically within the line-of-sight of your child who would burst into tears the moment he/she realizes mummy has gone home, unless you are trying to get that embarrassing picture in point number 1. -

Hi Chief kiasu
You mean we are allowed to stand outside the classroom and wait for the child?
According to the school, we are not even allowed to get close to the child during their recess time, can only watch them from far as the school has a buddy system whereby upper primary school children assist your child in buying food. -
My gal will be attending single-session school in the morning. Bus will pick her up at 6.25am. School starts at 7.30am and she has to be in by 7.20am. Have e-mailed to school principal a mth ago to start lessons at 8.00am but did not received any response, let alone an acknowledgement. Sometimes, I feel the school administrators have very poor PR and social skills nowadays. It’s like we owe them our lives and sub-ordinated to them. Anyway, have given up hope on them.
The first few weeks would be to get my gal familiar to the daily schooltime routines. Will pack sandwiches in her bag for her first few breakfasts/lunches as I’m sure the school food and queuing will take some time to get used to and will definitely upset her appetite in the meantime. The faster she get used to the routine, the better it will be for everyone.
During the orientation, we were told to bring a water bottle and a scrap book on the first day. There will be no lessons, just games and familiarising the students to the school and teachers. I reckon, the real lessons and timetable will starts on the 2nd or 3rd week, just waiting for the teachers to update us. Better to give them space and time to settle down. -
dilemma:
Same thing with my daughter's school. No contact during school hours. Even the seats in the class are assigned by the teacher. Poor thing, she has to seat near the door. Hopefully, she wont get distracted by the corridor movement.Hi Chief kiasu

Parents of Pri 1 children next year…Do you think there’s a need to send them to tuition classes? Any good ones near Clementi? My hubby said I’m too kiasu?

Sometimes it depends on which school your kid is in. Some schools expect the kids to already know some of the basic stuff and zoom into the more advanced stuff.
Perhaps it is better to seek advice from Parents of ex-Pri1 children... -
I would say give Kids food like Pediasure or Ensure which will give them a balanced Breakfast and they wont feel tired or lack of energy for the next few hours. Easy and less time consuming for kids to have a good morning substitute for breakfast since they leave home early. And kids dont like to eat solids at that early hours. My son does’nt feel hungry for atleast the next 3 hours after he drinks Pediasure

wow... you parents sure plan way.... ahead!
Think maybe the teachers will inform us during the orientation session? or we could ask them then abt what to bring for the 1st day?
