OMG..... thank goodness u went to A&E on time...janet_lee88:
Nope, his condition was serious and we didnt realize the symptoms/signs.
His left eye had blurred vision in the morn and hubby dismissed it as tiredness. By noon, it became worse (he said it was like fluid in the eye and couldn't see much). In the evening, that left eye vision was half functional. Thought it was eye infection but GP referred him to A&E immediately.
At A&E, the eye doctor did a detailed check and found that his retina had detached. He told us to go home first (3am). At 8am the next day, a senior doctor checked and called for an op to be carried out in the afternoon. Fortunately we went to A&E in time or he would have lost his vision permanently. I read up on this condition. It happens very suddenly.
Now his retina is back on the original place but he has to bend his head down for at least 2 weeks.
my MIL suffered from retina detachment a few years back. now her vision is back to usual but need yearly review. -
Hi janet_lee88,
Wishing your DH a speedy recovery.

Hope your DH is doing well.
My sis suffered a retina detachment a few years ago as well. And yup, it is a serious problem that can cause blindness if not treated fast enough.
She had the most uncomfortable 2 weeks cos unable to lie down to sleep and have to keep looking at the floor. Though she has recovered, she said the vision is not as before. But then, that could also be because she has very high myopia to start with. -
hi janet_lee88
wish your hubby speedy recovery ! -
During eye assessment for lasik, I was diagnosed for loose retina. Although not detached but if not treated, there would be a chance of detached. Went for a kind of laser to patch up the loose holes. According to my surgeon, anybody with myophia for many years or since young, would have chance of retina detachment. Peoples with high myophia would have higher chance. I did not asked him about the symptoms but my eyes used to be very dry and always got sting pain feeling on one side. The laser process was more painful and irritating than lasik. Its quite a fast one too. It is best to go for thorough eye checkup every 2 years.

Thanks for the info, I think I will schedule a check up soon. Prevention is always better than cure.

Ladies,
Thanks for your well-wishes.
I do hope and pray hard he recovers soon, although I know it cannot be rushed. All I can do is to remind him NOT to carry anything heavy and put eye drops for him regularly. -
Hope your hubby gets well soon! And do take care of yourself - can’t be easy for the rest of the family, especially yourself.

Thanks ladies,
I will take care of myself. Son has CA1 next week. Have been running around quite a bit…nagging at hubby to remember not to carry heavy things.
