      maroz:
Hi parents, my gal is in p1 this yr. she has been trying to find her kindergarten fren during recess breaks and eating alone if she can't find her. I have tried talking her into going for recess with her classmates instead but she chose not to. Is it common for p1 kids to eat alone? Or do they usually acquire the skills to mix ard with their classmates by now?

Hi maroz, just read your post. Children in primary 1 in Term 1 may lack the social skills and initiative to invite friends to eat with them. As I am making my post in Term 2 now, I hope it is still relevant to you.

Role-play with your child on social situations on how to invite friends to eat, the exact words to use, the tone, the body language and confidence to ask. These skills must be taught by the parents to the children and I doubt teachers have the time to teach them.

Keep encouraging your child and in no time, she will be eating with a group of friends instead of alone. I have tried it on my child and it works.

Hi, would like some advice from St nicks parents. I’m thinking of enrolling my girl into st nicks next year P1, but am worried about the pace. She is currently only on TH and no tuition on other subjects, although she is a good reader. Do you think she would be able to cope with the work in st nicks?

Also, I heard that the dismissal is pretty late at 1pm+, won’t the girls be hungry? Worried because my girl is a poor eater, so most likely will skip brekkie at home.

Thank you very much for advice

                  Dear mamemo,

Go ahead and enrol your DD , she shouldn’t have any problem coping with p1 works. I think the work load just like any others pri sch.

Yes , school release at 1.50pm . Besides recess time, children are allow to have a quick snack at 12noon in class. Just pack something light to eat in class will fine. In the morning, you can pack breakfast for her to eat in car/ school bus.

I am keen to send my girl to st nick.

I am SINGAPORE citizen, staying 1 km from the school.

What is my chance of getting in?

For 2013 balloting, what is the ratio?
