My child is in K2 in year 2013. I actually transferred him from antoher Christian Church Kindergarten to Maris Stella Kindergarten. I like Church and Catholic kindergarten because they teach good values from young, though I am a Buddhist.
Octbride, my friend who sends her daughter there just called me to complain. Apparently the teacher punished her daughter for being too talkative in class by locking her in the class when the other children when for chinese lessons which are apparenly held in another classroom.octbride:
Title: Any feedback on Maris Stella Kindergarten
Any feedback on maris stella kindergarten? Will students from maris stella be able to cope well academically when they go into P1?
Another friend who's daughter used to go there got terrified after the teacher threatened to brush her teeth with a metal toothbrush. I can't remember what it was for.
Also, what I heard is the parents are not given proper information on what the kids are doing in school. So I don't think it will prepare the child well for p1.
My child was not scolded once by any teachers, but he noticed that one or two friends did not follow teacher's rules in class. Occaionally a teacher might scare the kid if s/he is mischevious at times. It mean no harm, kids take time to change and learn rules. As parents, we must excercise our judgement. Luckily my son has yet to complain that his teacher threatened him, so far so good! -
I highly recommend Maris Stella Kindergarten to all mommies !
I want to share that prior to enrolling my son to Maris Stella Kindergarten, he had been to 2 pre-schools ( one local & one international ). Every morning, it was always a hard time to get him to go to school. He would cry and said that he did not want to go to school. Fortunately, I spoke to an old friend who advised that I should try Maris Stella Kindergarten. Until today, I must say I am truly grateful to this dear friend.
Anyway, I called and made appointment with Ms Cynthia who was most helpful and dedicated at her work. The rest is history… Now my son loves to go to school. Every morning he would ask me " is it time to go to school yet?"
I have no other answer except that the Maris Stella Kindergarten has a nurturing and loving environment. You will know what I mean especially if you have met Sister Agnes, current acting principal. I hope she will agree to be the principal. That will be such a blessing for the children and the school !
One has never seen such love and dedication like she has for the children and the school. She has quietly and studiously made Maris Stella Kindergarten a better, safer and cleaner place. She has my full respect. Full of wisdom and kindness.
I hope what I have shared here will be helpful for all you mommies who are looking for a good school for your little ones. I think they are offering N1 classes soon. I don’t have the details but you can call them to check. Maris Stella Kindergarten Tel: 6474-3590 -
My son just joined Maris Stella N2 this year started PM session. So far Im so grateful for all what happened to him. Its only been 4 months only and he is always happy and sing all the songs and his chinese is improving so much.
I met Sister Agnes last December and been sincerely in deep gratitude that God has made a destiny for me to meet her. After Talked to her for 2 hours, i feel so peaceful.
I believe academic is important but moral values and Faith in religion are the most important in life.
I trust Sister Agnes will do her best for this very humble school.
may GOD's peace is always be with you... :thankyou: -
My child is currently studying in Maris Stella. There have been some changes in school, i.e. admin personnel, one or two teachers, change of caterer. Thanks to all feedbacks, the kindergarten was refurbished last year, fence was painted this year, grills had been installed, and changes are on-going.
There are spelling in both English and Chinese languages in K2, computer classes for K1 and K2 (not sure about nursery), both Chinese and English language enrichment lessons, sports ball camp, doing science experiments in Chinese Language. What I love about the school is there is no air-conditioning, fresh air is better than air-conditioning.
When I pick a pre-school, I check a handful of kindergartens for academic performances, hygiene and safety, meals and transportation, school fees and enrichment classes etc. . But above all, I prefer nobody to push or order my child to write or study. Cultivating a desire to learn, read and write as a lifelong learning skill for future academic achievement is a mission I am working towards. My mission starts from home because home is a loving and relaxing environment. My child once commented, \"I don't know that doing homework is so much fun.\" It was both of us doing homework at home. This is not trying to advocate home schooling, but rather to bring to everyone's common senses that we choose so much that we forget how powerful and important we are as the magician to make our children love studying (base on the assumption that parents are not illiterate).
Usually, I ask my child whether teachers always rush students to do everything, there is no comment. I was told that some student is unable to follow simple instruction (either playful or really slow), so teacher has to rush them, but it was not my child. I wouldn’t rush my child to learn just like maids being ordered to do house works. Kids dislike learning if they foresee more and more learning, they get burn out and depress, or afraid to lose, or turn selfish and competitive. My child is assured that I love to learn with her at home, but if she prefers to learn with her friends, it’s all up to her. -
I have read the threads above with keen interest.
I am thinking of putting my son in Maris Stella N1 next year 2015 (morning session). Does anyone have any feedback about this kindergarten since the change in school principal last July?

My dd started attending Maris Stella Kindergarten on the day the new principle started work.
It is obvious dd loves school and her teachers. Personally, we feel that the school environment is very loving and happy. We find her teachers, both English & Chinese very amazing, their patience and dedication to nurture the children, is very inspiring. Dd has learnt a lot of phonics and chinese considering we don’t teach those at home. Mrs Koh, the new principle, herself is really loving with the children, which is refreshing in the hustle and bustle of Singapore.
We really feel this is the right Kindy for dd.
You should visit the school and ask for a tour and see how you & your child feel about it. -
my two children are there too. so far so good. they look forward to going to school every day and talk about their teachers and friends all the time. also, lots of singing. in all, they’re very happy to be there and i’m glad to have chosen to send them there.

Hi mummies and daddies, could I please ask from your experience, how do you find the school curriculum and whether Maris Stella will prepare your child well in terms of academic aspect. Understand that it is also important that your child nurtures into an independent and social person which I believe this school is able to provide the right environment. But would also like to know if they are well prepared for P1 ? Thanks very much

Hello all… just wondering anyone can give input for the recent quality of Maris Stella Kindergarten? Coz i’ve been hearing mixed review about this school.
I just called them to check if they have spot available for next year N1 and arrange school visit if they do. Im not too sure if the lady who picked up the phone was really in a bad mood or that’s her usual self. She said… "YA" I said hello, is this Maris Stella Kindergarten? "YA" May I know if u have available space for N1 student next year? "HMM… afternoon session only" and so on… it was just hmm and ya.
I was a bit shock to hear this kind of rude manner, and hoping she’s not one of the teacher there.
