CHIJ Family of Schools

Namie:
I'm staying in Tampines, so over 2KM for both. But all past years, IJ Katong had Phase 2C Supplementary.
Are you Catholic? If yes, then I suggest monitoring the situation for 2B for both schools and only make your decision on the last day of the 2-day registration for 2B, but bear in mind that IJ TP is definitely further for your girl, can be very tiring for a little girl to spend half her awake hours travelling from Tampines to TP day in and day out for 6 years, not to mention CCA in Upper Primary. -

hi 25hourmaid
Hi Jenrencejenrence:
Hi
I am new in this forum. Can some one please advise me what is the chances like for my daugther to get into CHIJ Katong. We are Catholics and we live more than 2Km from the school. Any balloting required for phase 2B on past history? Is it true that Catholics children get into phase 2B automatically?
First of all, welcome to KSP.
Here's the link to the balloting history for schools in Bedok area.
http://www.kiasuparents.com/kiasu/content/bedok
No, Catholics DO NOT automatically get into Catholic Schools under 2B. If there is balloting, the same distance rule applies.
Hope that helps.
Thanks for the link. Based on past balloting history only 1 year has balloting for phase 2B, therefore I think still stand a good chance.
Oh what I meant is do Catholics children get into phase 2B or 2C?
Anybody has children in IJ Katong can share comments about the school. What time does school start? -

Catholics children get into Phase 2B, since you are staying in Tampines the normal rule applies, if there is a balloting for 2B, you will not be out as you stay more then 2Km.hi 25hourmaid

I enroll my DD last year for pri 1 and I live in tampines, under Phase2C, We got in without any balloting, you have to monitor the situation, went on the last day of registration at about 1545hrs to register, to ensure that there will not be any balloting. At the end of the Phase 2C excersice there were 5 Vacancy left over for 2C supp.
Well the school hours are from 0750hrs till 1320hrs. Children as to be in sch by 0735Hrs. i will be able to answer your questions, as my DD is studying in IJ KC. -

Thanks for sharing the info.
Is IJ Katong the first choice for yr DD? How do you find the school so far in term of academic and discipline? Does your DD like the school?
I am staying in Bedok Reservoir which is actually not too far away from IJ Katong(10mins) drive but definitely more than 2km from IJ. Prefer a Catholics school for my DD as we are Catholics.
Actually I am quite clueless how does the registration work under different phases. Care to share. Many thanks! Btw is St Nicholas Secondary affliated to IJ Katong? -
Actually the registration system is quite simple. This is your first child?
If first child and you want to put her in a Catholic School, you come under 2B for Catholics, same phase for all Catholic schools across Singapore.
However, if sheβs your first child and you do not wish to put her in a Catholic school, she goes under 2C for any other schools which you have no connection with.
But if you want to put her back at the primary school/s where you or your hubby attended when you were kids, then she goes under 2A2.
CHIJ St Nics Secondary is only affiliated to CHIJ St Nics Primary, not IJ Katong.
Hope that helps. -

Yes she is my 1st child, that's why I am so blur.
Thanks very much for the clear explanations. Cheers! :rahrah: -

BTW, just kaypo a bit more. Do you have a second or third child? Girl or Boy?
Why do I ask? Well, if you have a second child who is a boy, then you have to think carefully where you intend to send him when the time comes. If you opt for a co-ed school now, you have one less headache when it comes the the boy's turn, but if you opt for IJ Katong, then you will have to go through the same headache again when it is time for you to register your boy.
That said, there are only 2 co-ed Catholic primary schools in Singapore and bit far for you too if you were to consider them.
On the other hand, there's St Stephen's in the East for your boy if you have one.
Oops, I think I have spoken too much without even knowing if you have a boy or a girl after this first girl! -

Yes I do have a 2nd child a boy.
I have taken into consideration about the schools for both of them while choosing a school for my gal. Would prefer them to go to Catholics schools. Where are the 2 co-ed Catholic schools?
As for my boy I may choose St Stephen or Maris Stella. Do you know the academic standard of ST Stephen? How is this school?
Which schools are your kids attending?
Thanks for your prompt and kind advice
:thankyou:
