      Hi

recently my child’s sa1 papers juz came back. was surprised the marks were not given for eng compo and mother tongue compo. the teacher said its their exam policy not to review the compo marks.

where is the logic I wonder? then how do we know how good or bad is the overall band for eng and mother tongue?

is this exam policy common in other schools too? whats the reason, can someone or teacher share?

I do not know the marks too. I will email the teachers to ask if she passed heehee.

I more or less know what are dd1's weaknesses so I'm ok.

During regular compo practises, there are feedback about her work.

When you have the report book, you can estimate the marks for compo and oral.

I have never asked why the marks are not released :imanangel:

          Hi jkids,

Did you find out whether it happen to your child’s class only, or to other classes at the same cohort level too ?

Maybe you may ask yr school English HOD plus mother tongue HOD the reason(s) ?

My friends’ schools, plus my dd school, do let parents know what are the marks for (English + mother tongue) composition(s).
Can know the marks, But cannot take back the paper.

They will give parents Term 2 Progress report -

on both character behavior + results.

Some schools give report card at end of Term 2.
Some schools give a report of Term 2 Progress, not necessarily inside a report card.
                (Depend on your school)

Report card normally given at end of Term 4.

                    Hi,

I think for compo paper school normally not given back , children will tell us the overall.

So normally we can email to ask teacher what is the reason for the mark down in composition for the child.

Now the school policy is not to release the compo and the actual marks. They will only give a "range".

One of the reason that I can think of was that they do not want parents to compare the composition marks as mark given are really very subjective in composition.
