Hi all,


Just to confirm, it’s ok for us to rent one whole apartment and reside there for the primary sch years, instead of buying right? Issues only arise when people do not stay there, am I right?

Paiseh paiseh, another question. Does any one know how long it takes to rent a private property (excluding selection process) and how long does it take to update the change in the IC?

(1) Renting a private property - as long as it takes you and the landlord to sign the tenancy agreement. Usually depends on the negotiation process, but once it is signed, the tenancy starts from the date stated on the agreement as the starting date of the tenancy.

(2) Update change in IC - as long as it takes you to go down to the police station to update your address. This depends on when you are free to do so, because the police officer will stick the new address on your IC on the spot.

Yes to the first part. Not everyone can afford to buy their home.

The second part is dicey and contains some grey area. Technically, you do not have to be living there for the whole of the six years. There is no guarantee that an agreement can be reached to extend/renew the tenancy when it expires in a year or two. You do, however, have to be living there when the child starts school (or when you register the child? This part a bit grey too). As for how long you have to continue to live there after the child starts school...

I suggest that if you have to move house after your child starts school, you continue to retain documentary evidence that you were in fact living there at the time your child started school - eg. stamped tenancy agreement, evidence of rent payment, utility bills etc. Heck, throw a birthday party at home when your child is in pri 1 and invite all your child's classmates to be witnesses (well... their parents anyway). Don't forget to take lots of photos/videos.

Never know when someone may complain.

Can't find any such thing for tenancies that have not yet started. So, I think probably cannot, otherwise it looks like scam city . Like I said, this one is a grey area. Better ask MOE to be sure.

I’m currently staying with my parents and the school I intend to register under phase 2c is less then 1km. Both our ic is my parents address now, however our bring should be ready end of this year or early next year. Do I need to do a declaration or can I use my current ic address(which is my parents address). My 2nd girl will have to register next year which will be phase 1 if my elder girl get in this year, so by the time should be my new address, will it get Both of them affected?
