Choosing and Evaluating Primary Schools

phtthp:
ok noted.. will go look out for it.. THksSee whether hawkhoo77 can find a school bus that is LIFO, instead of FILO.
LIFO method (last in to board, first one to drop off school bus) -
school bus journey fast
FILO method (first one to board, last one to drop off school bus) -
School bus journey long.
Because after she sign up for school bus service, sometimes there can be more than 1 school bus go to her house, fetch her child to Pei Hwa.
Depend on how Pei Hwa school bus fleet operate.
Hawkhoo77 has to go and find out, make enquiries herself whether got more than 1 school bus go her house.
(Depend on luck, whether got LIFO) -
I’m staying at bukit panjang. Considering between greenridge pri sch and beacon. Any advise on which one I should choose?
I want to try to do PV at nanhua. Do you think I should go ahead or drop the idea since the chance is slim… thks. -

if you're seriously keen about Nan Hua, submit your PV application, first.

at the same time, go and find out from past historical Phase 2B P1 registration statistics record -
you need to stay within what distance range from Nan Hua, then got chance to enter ?
ie. even for PV under Phase 2B: if stay > 1 km, still got chance or not ?
satisfy distance criteria first
if Nan Hua eventually select you as PV, and you also satisfy the distance critieria, then go for it.
else, if Nan Nua reject -
may consider alternative route: GrassRoot activity leader.
GRC also come under Phase 2B.
bear in mind -
even if you manage to clock the number of hours successfully, distance still come into play. -
I was comparing between schools using the MOE query tool and I realise that some schools have both foundation English and English while some schools only have English. Same for maths and foundation maths.
Does anyone knows what is the difference? -

Foundation Math or Foundation English are usually taken by those academically weaker students. Some of these students will proceed to Normal Technical stream in Secondary School. Usually pupils with very weak foundation in English or Math from Pri 1 to Pri 4 need to take Foundation subjects.
The best time to build up the child's foundation is from Pri 1 to Pri 3. Those 3 years are the critical years for building up their foundation.
Moreover, in the past there used to be EM3 streaming and EM3 students in the past are required to take Foundation Eng/Math in the past when they were in P5 or P6.
The cracks will appear slowly if the child goes to Pri 1 with weak literacy skills. Therefore, it is very important that children MUST be able to read well and comprehend the passage well before entering Pri 1. Weak literacy skills will affect the ability to solve Math problem sums and Heuristic questions.
I was told it is the norm that P1 students should score at least 90 and above for their subjects since P1 assessments are set so easy nowadays in primary schools. -
Dear all,
I hope you can give me some advice for choosing schools from your past experience.
My older dd was born in 2010. We’re currently staying in a rented apartment within 1km of River Valley Primary School and Alexandra Primary School, so these are my obvious choices. But because I have 2 girls, I’m kind of tempted to put them in a girls’ school too. We are Catholics, so I think we qualify for Phase 2B of the CHIJ schools. Considering IJ Toa Payoh and IJ Kellock, but we are outside 2km radius.
Would like to know, how did you go about deciding which school to choose? The one nearest to you? I don’t know much about the school culture of the schools, do I look out for their open house days? Confused confused confused! Our rental will be up in a years’ time, and are looking to buy but it seems the school will be an important factor now. Help! -
Hi KSParents and all,
I’m currently evaluating and reviewing the different pri schs which is within 1-2km from my house at Punggol Place. It should be either Punggol Green (within 1km), Punggol View(within 1km) and Edgefield Pri (within 1km) and Springdale Pri (1.6km). Was wondering how to know if a sch suits my girl. Currently caretaker is in Sengkang but I’m staying in Punggol. Any comments or experience to share with me? I prefer Punggol Green (Punggol) as it’s closest to where I’m staying or Springdale (Sengkang) as it’s closest to the caretaker. Was thinking how well Punggol Green is as I can’t seem to find 2013 PSLE results. Please advise. Thank you. -
Hi all,
I wonder which move will you choose if you are in my position.
Staying in Punggol. Hub is former NYP...I am formerly from PCPS.
Frankly I find that if we registered DD in NYP, distance will be a nightmare. I understand that kids from Punggol need to wake up like 5am to get ready for the school bus!! Its a nightmare for straight 6 years.
I wonder how most parents will decide:
- Distance?
PCPS as it is nearer in TPY?
- Branded school?
As I guess NYP is the most sought after school?
- Teachers?
I heard that the teachers in NYP seems to be better in TPY..
- Totally relocate
Just to be near the school?
Haiz seems like most parents staying in Punggol/Sengkang has this woes of being far away from all the schools they want

NYPS is a nightmare…and with the 40 places taken out for phase 2B/C, ‘hot’ schools may go into balloting for those in 2A…the distance will come into consideration. Moving nearer NYPS will be expensive.
Govt push young couples to stay outskirts…this is a headache with after school care when kids start attending school and grandparents stay far.
