Choosing and Evaluating Primary Schools
-
Hi p1 parents,
All the best to your children’s registration.
Remember, you guys have to do your part too and not let teachers do all the work. -
I am staying between these 2 schools and both equally popular schools. Which would be a better choice for you if you were me? Both schools need balloting <1km. I only know Sengkang Primary as the school I can consider if I failed the balloting. Are there any other schools that I can consider within my location? For me location is my 1st criteria. Thank you all.

Based on new ruling of reserving 40 places, are schools open for registration minus those places? For eg if 300 places - 40 = 260 places for phase 1 onwards?

that means left over after phase 1 (guaranteed) will mean balloting for phase 2a1/2 will happen for those staying more than 1 km for hot schools.janet_lee88:

How to choose a primary school for your child based on my past experience as a parent.
Choose the nearest one that is near your house.
Look at the CCA offered and compared which your child preferred. Look at niche areas too.
For my child’s case, I went for my child’s preference for single gender school, her preference for certain activities which was offered by the school of choice, the niche areas and I was lucky to place her in a good school which meet her needs and interests. However, this comes at the expense of traveling time and high transport cost for the initial years. As a child matures, she will be ready to take public transport by mrt or bus when she goes upper primary.
Choose a primary school wisely. The network of her friends in school as well as the network of parents I have made from her school is great. Given the choice to transfer school, the sacrifice will have to be made to readjust to a new environment to know other friends and parents.
If I could choose again, I will go for distance. The nearer the school to the house, the better. But in my child’s case, since a school was chosen last year, my child would have to sacrifice her playing toys time or playing at playground time on weekdays. Weekends will be a time to catch up on leisure activities.
So it actually depends on which school you want your child to be in.
