All About Parent Volunteers (PV)
-
copied from MOE for this year's admission. i think this holds valid for all future years also...
Phase 2B
(a) For a child whose parent has joined the primary school as a parent volunteer not later than 1 July 2013 and has given at least 40 hours of voluntary service to the school by 30 June 2014

halo to all the experienced pants here, i have a question on the PV route
my girl is born in 2011 and by right, i need to sign myself up for the PV in 2016
however, seems like there are some cases where PV application is rejected by the sch.
so in this case, if i sign up early, will my 'membership' with the sch maintain all the way to 2016? -

Schools will not allow parents to start PV early, unless the time is due.

Every year -
PV only cater to that particular year of kids born.
Even if you submit your PV form very early in advance -
School will not process it, until the time is due, to process that particular year born batch of kids.
Your form will just be stacked aside, until it is ready to process.
There is a season, to process each year born batch of kids.
It doesnt mean that the earlier you apply for PV -
The earlier you get accepted, then the earlier you can start clocking up hours of PV, ahead of peers from your batch.
You still need to wait, for your batch turn.
In this case, the early bird does not catch any worm. -
Personally feels that PV is still the way to go. Schools that have removed PV are those that have affliations that perhaps have too many applications on the "sideline" to handle. So much competition in the backyard that removing PV for the public members became inevitable.
Do we want to applaud scraping off PV for all schools? the answer is NO for me. PV provides the very important opportunity for parents to understand the school better.
Although it sounds like hard work but some parents are more than happy to be involved in the future school of their child. The spirit of volunteerism is not to be seen as mere opportunist at heart. -
hi,
i am thinking of register my girl for a girls’ school (register in 2016 for P1 in 2017). i know is abit late to consider doing PV, but any one knows whether the following school still accepting PV?
1) CHIJ (toa payoh)
2) RGPS?
thanks in advance. -

Hi baby A
May I know, what is the PV proposal u propose to offer to RGS?
Would like to more about which kind of PV work the school prefer.
Many Thanks! :grphug:
Thank you wenwen120280 for your advice

The school would like to know mainly what you can contribute to the school and your commitment level. Just be yourself. Clocking hours is a year long process. You must be sure that u have the bandwidth. Otherwise, it will be extremely tiring and stressful.
If the neighbourhood school is good, you may want to go for it. Otherwise, you may need to do pv twice (only if available). Just my to cent worth. For consideration
Hi
Selected for interview for PV @ RGPS - can I know what are the questions asked? What needs to be prepared?
Also if I have a younger child that's a boy, is it still wise to consider RGPS for my current girl? Since I have to think about PV again in 2 years time....just wondering if I shld just drop RGPS and instead consider a mixed-gender sch in my neighbourhood.... -

The PVs who serve the school are those with daughters already studying there. -
Hi All,
Is anyone has been successful sign up the PV for year 2016?
Call to one of the school and ask and I being told that too early and ask me to wait to early of next year… can anyone can share their experience on this? Thanks… -
Hi,
Does anyone knows whether RGPS and SCGS accept PV that stays more than 2km? -
Yes, RGPS has always been accepting SC PV, more than 2 km.
last year (2013) -
all SC PV got in, including > 2 km.
(not sure about SCGS) -
hi hi is there any point in doing Henry Park PV if SC and more than 2 km?
