This thread is making me so nervous even though I do not have to register this year. Catholic high is so competitive! I am worried next time I cannot even get in under 2a1 sighs.

which year are you registering your kid ?
make sure you join Catholic High, 2A1

the same apply to other schools who need to ballot at 2A2, this year, or face high risk of balloting.
Times have changed, situation have changed.

And Phase 2B / 2C of those schools who ballot / high risk of balloting at 2A2 -
rely on around 20 seats each, to enrol.

20 seats is very tight, face intense competition :yikes: :slapshead:

There should be a rule to forbid parents who had secured a placement to withdraw and to re-register to try their luck in other phases. It gives parents who are not in the earlier phases unnecessary stress. So what if there are 40 seats reserved for phase 2B and 2C, those unsuccessful in earlier phases will still chiong for these 40 seats! Its only a matter of earlier chiong or later chiong!

Yu Neng Primary is very popular amongst its old boys/girls.
Only 2 vacancies left for tmr 2A2.

many years ago in 1935 (historical days), Yu Neng started off as a Chinese school.
Her Chinese traditional values and roots, are strong.
Yu Neng is a good school, came a long way.

Last time because Chinese school, so only Chinese students enrolled.

years later : then slowly began to introduce English stream, into her curriculum.
Today, a lot of multi-racial kids attend.

rains, jetsetter - Thanks for your advice. Will go down to my preferred school(SCGS) tmr and monitor in person, but likely to do the de-registering at 4pm. Keeping my fingers crossed…

If 2A1 ballot one fine day, Yes, possible that > 2 km can't return.

Can consider other school, if you had ever Transferred primary school before, in the past.

OR

your spouse still have his primary school report card, and his school still exists or merge with others (not closed down)
Then can enrol your child into your spouse ex school.

This rule to forbid parents from withdraw & then re-register, won't happen.
Bec if it happen, there will be people writing to Straits Times, to stop it.

Because a lot of parents are currently doing PV in Popular schools, doing PV in clans, or doing GRC / PAP community work, or getting involved in church activities, temple activities, etc.

Many of them would have enrolled in their own 2A ex primary school, first.
So they had already secured a place for their child, in their own school.

But they don't like their own ex school : for whatever reasons.
That's why they are clocking up hours one by one, doing all these Phase 2B (PV, clan, church, GRC) work.
So at an appropriate time due, they'll withdraw their child from their already enrolled P2A ex school, to re-register the same kid, under P2B, in some popular schools.
For GRL, they have the special privilege to pick & choose which school they desire most, from the whole of GRC.

Although we would intend register under Phase 2B for Poi Ching …but we’r still keen in St Hilda’s Pri Sch…might like to see the situation under Phase 2C since we live within 1KM

I always thought only the school that issues the leaving cert (ie. the school where psle was taken) is applicable :scratchhead:

for 2A2 -
as long as you can show report card proof that you'd ever studied in that primary school before, can go in already.

The school only looking for proof that you are an ex-student from that school. That's all.

Example

GEP students
P1 to P3 : study in a non GEP school
P4 to P6 : changed to a GEP school

PSLE cert : only reflect the GEP school PSLE results
but this parent is holding 2 report cards.

So, can this parent (say, mother) go back to enrol in her (P1 to P3) alma mater, using her report card ?
Of Course !

But do you think she'll want to choose the Non-GEP school ?
most people think she won't : because given a choice between a GEP school and a non-GEP school, obviously she would pick the GEP school, right ?

look at Henry Park (GEP school) : need to ballot now, at 2A2
Suppose she come from say, River Valley primary. (non GEP)

suppose she fall under 2A2 > 2km, from Henry Park.
given a choice between HPPS (need to ballot) vs River Valley, which is a safer bet ?

another scenario
suppose another parent (father) also 2A2 > 2km, from Nan Hua primary.
suppose this father also holding 2 report cards : Nan Hua and say, Fairfield Methodist primary.

now that Nan Hua has to ballot, which one will he choose ?
Fairfield Methodist : because no need to ballot, very safe.

when come to 2A2 -
no need to just rely on PSLE Cert.
if you want that, can.
if not, use Report card, also can.

MOE never state any minimum number of years.
So long as you can show report card, schools will accept this reason.
