Mummyof3...I'm very very angry with my maid and the agency ! I had this Filipino maid from my agency (Budget Maid). She ran away recently and was sent back to my agency but ran away again from the agency.
I know how it feels cos I also got my last 3 maids from budget maid. All 3 lasted barely 8 months between them. The 2nd one was a transfer maid and she ran away 3 times to the agent, citing that she has no strength to carry on. Stole a lot of my things too. Only discovered when I need to use it. The first one pretended to have stomach ache and refused to work. The 3rd one used emotional blackmail on us. Kept crying whenever you point out her mistakes and not clean. Also took my items for personal use without asking. Their maids are lousy. All looking for cushy job.

Hi piggymum, this is also my 2nd Myanmar maid. I guess I found a soulmate!! Ha…my first one lasted 3 years. In the beginning she was great but towards the end she changed! Sigh! This current one is with me for only 1 month. I intend to change her for an indo maid who is ex-Singapore. Actually she’s getting better until today I discover she soaked her underwear with my child’s clothes!!! Faint She also cannot take care of children. No experience. For your information, Myanmar side has problem with emails. You need to use gmail, easier to go through. Their government likes to limit the connectivity to exert control over how much information their people can receive. So sometimes you can send 3 emails and yet the other party don’t receive anything. Tell her to call. Write letters also quite costly. Ask her buy calling card, much faster. you need to be firm with Myanmar maids. Tell her straight in the beginning what you like and don’t like. If you meet a good maid, great but if you meet a lousy one then being firm really helps! Hearing from you say, I presume your maid lives in Yangon? or at least near to Yangon? Kaiyin seems better because they lives in the mountains but they more "country thinking" which means English is a huge problem. If you are patient you can try Myanmar maids from Kaiyin.

I know how you feel. With no support its really tough for working mums! Do you know I have no one at home? I leave the maid with my 6 year old gal!! Now that I m getting an Indo maid, I m also equally nervous. My this current myanmar maid is well trained by me! But its the child minding experience that she don’t have. Pity. Eventhough its only a month with me, she has learnt much and willing to change. Like after the soaking episode, she quickly re-wash all the clothes and now she washed her own clothes after her shower! I m very sure the next employer will be happy with her as long as there is no children involved!

After my training, she even bought vegetables using her AngPow money to cook a new dish. I was quite surprised! She keep asking me to try her cooking. It shows that my prep talk seems to work.

Hearing all your stories, i must be very fortunate that all my past and present maids have been good. My present one has been with me for the past 4 months and she is getting better!

Somehow, i think it is very important that the agency prepare them for work in Singapore. All my maids hand wash their clothes separately from ours even though i did not tell them from the start. I notice they were made to read and sign an agreement form which instructs them not to mix their laundry with their employers’. Also they wait for employer to finish eating before they eat, unless told otherwise.

            Hi Hiccup,

I got my maid from hougang green branch ? What about yours ? Yes all their maids are lousy and not trained at all. My filipino maid told me she is a princess maid and don’t know how to do housework. Always eat before us and never have the courtesy to inform us before she starts eating. She never have to cook nor take care of my 3 boys except helping with the housework at my dad’s house. My dad is already 70yrs old and that’s why i’ve to get a maid to help up with his housework. He’ll cook and take care of my 3 boys. Weekends, my maid will do housework at my home. She complaint too tired. Real angry with her.
Understand from my eldest boy who is 10yrs old told me that my maid alway sit at my dad’s place reading newspaper !

              Hi all,

Currently my maid is going to be due in June 2010 and she will be extending for another 2 years. We intend to let her go on 2 weeks of home leave before she continues working again.

I would like to check if i should renew her passport now or after she comes back to Singapore, the expiry date is 2 June 2011.
We intend to let her go back in late May.

Will she have any problems coming back to Singapore?

              Thanks

Hi mummy of 3, since you are not happy with your maid then don’t bother to keep her. you can post her name and biodata in Tamarind’s blog. That way, other employers will not suffer in her hands.

We don’t have to pay and be unhappy. Especially you have someone at home, all the more you don’t have to put with her nonsense.

Leonardtay, actually it really depends on the other side of the government whether the custom officers there will allow her to leave the country. I personally think its safer to renew first before she goes back. Are you worried that she won’t come back? If yes, you can actually hold her one month salary until she’s back then return her.

Please make sure she has some deposit in terms of cash if you let her go on home leave and only renew her passport and work permit on her return.

My second maid asked me to renew her passport and she did not leave any deposit with me. She left for home leave of 1 month. On the day she was to return, she sms me and said she would not be coming back. Luckily i did not renew her passport and work permit as it requires one to buy the insurance as well when applying for the work permit.
So i lost on time, the amount paid for the return air ticket and the emotional stress, not to say the inconvenience of taking extra leave to wait for the new maid.
After that, subsequent maid if want to go on home leave means go back for good. If want to extend work permit, then cannot go on home leave.

Definitely so. I recall my ex-maid, talk to her, she give you the blur look. But when we're talking amongst ourselves, you can see her ears perk up and she'll be looking at us. Even small jokes also she will join us in laughing....and i thought she didn't comprehend us?? 😛
