The child is my daughter. The teacher is ok when comes to teaching and she likes children, but I am worried about the chit chat etc........ Also, I cannot be around all the time....

What happens if 'something bad' happens when I'm not around. I am not saying it will happen, but I am not sure...............

Am I being unfair and unjust to her if I tell her to leave?
I strongly agree that this is a serious concern. But after reading the posts here, a question 'pops' in mind - What about a tutor of different religious belief? I will also be definitely be very worried about the 'chit-chat' and the 'role-model' for my child.

Can I say that these concerns are base-less? Of course not ! But should we be overly-concern? Definitely not !!

Bear in mind - we dont have choice of teachers in school either !!

Now its gay, later would be religion, then would be race/nationality or whatever comes next - when will it end then?

For me, i'll just terminate the tutor if i dont feel comfortable with him/her tutoring my child.

Agree, if you are uncomfortable, just do what you think makes sense. Why put up with this at the expense of your child? If you do not protect your child, who will?

If I don't know the teacher's orientation or inclination and have engaged him and the teacher is doing a fine job - I don't think it's justifiable to 'dismiss' him in that respect unless, what he is doing 'crosses' the line.

However, if his inclination is made known to me, I don't think I will engage his services no matter how good he is. It has nothing to do with discrimination against who he is - but more for my children's sake.

If he is employed to teach me - I don't mind. 😉

I share the same thinking. Children are still children, too young to understand all these complications and worse still if they get influenced.

I terminated two teachers before because one chit chat / complain too much with my girls about her students, student’s family and parents. Another teacher (young lady) kept talking to my girl about religion and sexual issue. I don’t think I need them to teach my child about kpo/gossip, religion and sexual issues, these are my reponsibility. I strongly believe teachers have great influence on children and I find these type of teachers not suitable to teach my kid.

My gut tells me when he crosses the line, it is considered too late, so I rather err than regret as it is mentioned, the close encounter is too close for comfort. If it is a school teacher, I am also fine by it, unless the school teacher makes alot of opportunity to spend time with my child alone.

Agree, for closely guided children by parents, these are not necessary, but for latch-key type of kids, such tutors would have value-added in some ways. But I would stay away from religion and only speak on sexual matters only if the child is facing an issue in that area. As for complaining to students, that is totally off.....

I am speaking from experience as I used to teach some such kids before and they benefitted as their parents were too busy and the boys eventually made it to the university with their humble background. So the parents were grateful to me for not just teaching them the core subjects but also guiding them properly during their crucial years when the parents were busy.

Sad, it goes to show, that choosing tutor also got its difficulties. Tuition centre will solve the problem, perhaps?

The thing is, these two teachers are not tutors. They are music and art ...
