Thank you Slmkhoo. The question is on its own. No other context provided.
Your last sentence refers to the 2nd question (about Daisy)? If so, then it's not possible to choose 1 correct answer as all except the first are grammatically correct.
Option 2 is the correct answer. The standing preceded the state (drenched), so 1 and 4 are not correct, and 3 would be correct if the \"has\" were changed to \"had\".slmkhoo:
Peter ________ in the rain for an hour and _________ thus drenched to the bone.
Options: 1. is standing.....is 2. has been standing....is
3. has been standing.......was 4. was standing.............was
Is option 2, the correct answer ? or must be 3?
Please help. Thanks. -

slmkhoo:
Slmkhoo is right. It's not possible to choose one correct answer without more info. 2) is correct if it'll happen in the future; 3) is correct if it happened in the past, and 4) is correct if it's happening right now.
Is there a context for this sentence? Because options 2, 3, and 4 can be correct depending on the context.vsk:
One more:
Daisy ____________ by the teacher how to do the piece of work.
1) is showing 2) will be shown 3) has been shown 4) is being shown
I feel that ans 4 and 3 are correct. Can help to clarify which is the best answer ?
Thanks
But they are all grammatically correct, so there's not a 'best' option. -

Thank you all. Agreed. This was part of a list of questions in my DD’s school home work. I have asked her to get clarified by her teacher.

Ans Key provided :
Iris asked me if I had returned the library books which I had borrowed the previous month. -
I have a few more
3) None of us approved of what Parveen intended to do
DD Ans :
All of us disapproved of what Parveen intended to do
Model Ans provided :
All of us did not approve of what Parveen intended to do
4) Serene tried to retrieve her drawing. The gust of wind blew it further and further away.

The more Serene tried to retrieve her drawing, the more the gust of wind blew it further away.

thanks gurus for helping! -
JRexpress:
I think your daughter's answers are OK for both of these. I don't think there is always only 1 right answer, but some teachers might stick rigidly to the answer key. I think (though I don't know for sure) that PSLE markers may be more flexible.Hi, generally, are S&T Qns only fixed with 1 correct answer? e.g below, are my DD's answers acceptable?

4) Serene tried to retrieve her drawing. The gust of wind blew it further and further away.
DD Ans :
The more Serene tried to retrieve her drawing, the more the gust of wind blew it further away.
This would mean that the gust of wind got stronger, but actually it was only the paper that went further away.
Model Ans provided :
The more Serene tried to retrieve her drawing, the further the gust of wind blew it away.
I don't think this is good either. I would prefer \"... the further away the gust of wind blew it.\"
5) The businessman is trying to minimise his losses. It is possible that he will be declared bankrupt.
DD Ans:
Faced with possible bankrupt declaration, the businessman is trying to minimise his losses.
This definitely wrong.
Model Ans provided :
Faced with thepossibility of being declared bankrupt, the businessman is trying to minimise his losses.

:thankyou: slmkhoo for the confirmation. told DD i think her answers are perfectly alright, but bcos her teacher also rigidly sticks to ans key, hence she thinks she better deem herself wrong.
