Dear Potential Phase 2C Supplementary Parents,
In addition to above responses we shared yesterday, we left out 4 more as shown below :
Students observed to be of higher ability for their age cohort will similarly be given slightly more challenging work on occasions to mentally challenge and engage them in school.
We currently have a good number of them in P1 this year and they are enjoying their learning! :imcool:
9) There's also emphasis on healthy living in school. Hence, we encourage West Springers to be involved in physical activity during recess, in addition to their physical education lessons.
At the same time, balanced diet food is sold in our canteen in line with health promotion board's recommendations.
We encourage children to learn to love eating vegetables and fruit from young. So each set meal sold in our canteen is accompanied by a slice of fruit each day.
We've also placed the menu on our school website so that parents are aware of the types of food sold in school.
10) Students at the lower primary levels who are observed to be stronger in their mother tongue languages will also be stretched through slightly higher level materials being exposed to them during MT lessons.
11) You may register using the P1-IS fromย 9am on Sunday, 10 August 2014 to 4.30pm on Tuesday,12 August 2014.
Alternatively, you may come to West Spring Primary School to register for Phase 2C Supplementary on Tuesday and Wednesday (12 Aug - 13 Aug) at 8.00am - 11am and 2.30pm - 4.30pm. -
Hi WSPS,
You mentioned that students are not banded. Does that means there are no streaming in P3/P4 onwards?
Appreciate your reply. Thanks! -

At the end of P4, compulsory Subject-based Banding will take place in all primary schools in Singapore.
Students will take a combination of Standard and/or Foundation subjects, depending on his/her strengths and needs. Foundation subjects allow the child to better focus on building his/her fundamentals.
Parents will be briefed more on this matter when their children are in P4.

West Spring Primary School:
This is excellent information! Thanks!Dear Potential Phase 2C Supplementary Parents,
Updates on more phone queries received today & sharing with all of you:

Just to add on to dearzen's post.Hi WSPS,

While I agree that banding at P1 is too early, many schools do start \"banding\" at P2 for greater efficiency and supposedly, greater effectiveness in teaching. By grouping children of the same capability together, teaching can be more focused and tuned to each group. Did that happen for West Spring too? If not, why not? -
Kudos to WSPS for taking the initiative to engage parents and potential parents so openly at KSP. Not an easy thing to do (as we're aware, Internet forums are made up of all sorts of people).
Though I don't have any more kid for P1 enrollment, I'm nevertheless impressed. :salute: -

At West Spring, the approach taken is one of differentiated teaching through flexible groupings during curriculum time to better cater to students' learning needs and pace.
Our 10 additional Flexi Adjunct teachers who are trained experienced former school teachers often work together with the subject teacher to help out in these flexible groupings of differentiated learning to better guide students in their learning.
We've avoided using terms like 'Banding/Streaming' as they could possibly lead to labelling children at such a young age.
At West Spring, we strive to build every child's confidence and provide each child with opportunities to experience little successes along his/her education journey.

Whilst we've been commended a number of times by parents on our efforts made to engage them, we always feel so heartened to hear from yet another appreciative parent like you! :boogie: :imcool:
In our endeavours to engage parents as best as we can to help them understand the school system better, we also hope that parents will continue to be appreciative of our efforts; continue to be understanding, as well as be reasonable with their queries /comments posted on the forum. :xedfingers: :please:
