      Dear Parents,

:thankyou: to those parents who've purchased MY SG 2014 'Moments of Love' National Day charity fund-raising tickets for event on 12 August 2014 at Star Performing Theatre. :rahrah:

We're happy to share that as part of our character development programme at West Spring, our talented P1 West Springers and teachers will be performing on that night for President Tony Tan and 5000 audience. :grphug:

We're sure it'll be a highly memorable event for everyone! :boogie:

      Good Job! 🕺

        West Spring Primary School:
Dear Potential Phase 2C Supplementary Parents,

Updates on more phone queries received today & sharing with all of you:
        ...
        This is excellent information! Thanks!

I wish more schools would be as open as you in providing such information to help clarify parents' concerns.

          Hi WSPS,

You mentioned that students are not banded. Does that means there are no streaming in P3/P4 onwards?

          Appreciate your reply. Thanks!
Just to add on to dearzen's post.

While I agree that banding at P1 is too early, many schools do start \"banding\" at P2 for greater efficiency and supposedly, greater effectiveness in teaching. By grouping children of the same capability together, teaching can be more focused and tuned to each group. Did that happen for West Spring too? If not, why not?

Kudos to WSPS for taking the initiative to engage parents and potential parents so openly at KSP. Not an easy thing to do (as we're aware, Internet forums are made up of all sorts of people).

Though I don't have any more kid for P1 enrollment, I'm nevertheless impressed. :salute:

              Dear ChiefKiasu,

At West Spring, the approach taken is one of differentiated teaching through flexible groupings during curriculum time to better cater to students' learning needs and pace.

Our 10 additional Flexi Adjunct teachers who are trained experienced former school teachers often work together with the subject teacher to help out in these flexible groupings of differentiated learning to better guide students in their learning.

We've avoided using terms like 'Banding/Streaming' as they could possibly lead to labelling children at such a young age.

At West Spring, we strive to build every child's confidence and provide each child with opportunities to experience little successes along his/her education journey. 😄

Whilst we've been commended a number of times by parents on our efforts made to engage them, we always feel so heartened to hear from yet another appreciative parent like you! :boogie: :imcool:

In our endeavours to engage parents as best as we can to help them understand the school system better, we also hope that parents will continue to be appreciative of our efforts; continue to be understanding, as well as be reasonable with their queries /comments posted on the forum. :xedfingers: :please:

I like it that my child is not ‘banded’ or treated as 2nd class just becos he is not academically inclined. The feeling of being a little puzzle that piece up the entire school is immensely satisfying. It also sends the right signal to other students that no one is inferior, we are just different. Good job West Spring, I simply love this school! The second best home for my child.

That's interesting! How does the \"flexible groupings\" work? Does it mean classes comprise of students of various abilities, but during lessons, students join groups of similar abilities? Or do students study together in the same group but receive customised \"differentiated learning\" by teachers or trainers?

I do appreciate your efforts at not classifying kids at such a young age. That's the right approach if we are to build a nation of confident young adults.

                      Dear ChiefKiasu,

Yes, we use a combination of approaches that you’ve mentioned in meeting our students’ learning needs as best as we can. We’re happy that thus far, our West Springers are making good progress, in line with our philosophy of providing opportunities for each child to be able to experience little successes along the way. :imcool: :boogie:

                        Hi WSPS,

You mention that students are not banded, from end of P3 entering into P4.

                        is there any banding
                        - from end of P4 entering P5, and
                        - from P5 into P6 ?

                        Thank you
