The Big Read: What the demographic ‘time bomb’ spells for S’pore’s education system
http://bit.ly/2BwvbOo
Accoridng to the article, Blangah Rise Primary is only running 2 primary one classes this year, each having less than 30 students. That is very sad indeed, but I heard many parents from other under-subscribed schools tell me that the lower teacher:student ratio results in their child getting more quality and quantity attention than at overcrowded schools. Maybe this would this help to pull up the quality of the education at these schools?
On a side note, will the new rule allowing priority for the MOE K kids bump up demand slightly for Blangah Rise Pri? Guess we'll see at 2018 registration... -
it’ll be pretty naive to think one dimension that the less pupils, the more attention they’ll get because there are huuuuge differences in the teachers’ attitude. A responsible and professional teacher have the skills charisma to control a class of 60, let alone 30. A 三心二意 teacher will take leaves often and just let the kids do drawing, or take PE which basically means running aimlessly in the playground.
