Urgent need to get a Math tutor for my Sec 1 girl studying in RGS. Female tutor preferred. Staying in the East. Any good recommendation from parents here? Thank you in advance.

Congrats ! How do u apply for Y1 entrance test ? Are your girl returning Singapore citizen ?
Hi gardenia64,
Yes. She is returning Singaporean. Did your dd take the placement test last year? How did she find the GAT and Science papers? -

Hi, mystuff_corner,
My dd attended sec 1 replacement test last time. She told me that she could not finish the GAT paper. As they only gave less time only. She felt science paper is ok for her. -
Just got a CO from RGS today but dont understand what they meant by Raffles Programme (GEP)? RGS separate the GEPpers from the MS?

:congrats: and welcome to the Raffles family!
The GEP students are placed in the same classes together with some of the top mainstream students. The curriculum is the same throughout the cohort though. -

Ad the GEP/MS distinction is only for the first class placement - Yrs 1-2. After that, it doesn't matter.blessmum4:

We like the confident rgs girls ,but would rgs be as good as nus high in math and science ?i mean in terms of exposure that nus high gives to its studentsMy dd likes math and is good in science , would like to take up engineering as a career ........she has a choice between rgs and nus high .

My take - and it was once shared by a former senior NUS member - that students in the mainstream schools (RGS included) are on track for GCE ‘A’ Levels which are recognized by foreign universities, whereas NUSHS Diploma is more relevant for admission to NUS (and other local universities). Thus, a lot depends on what your child wishes to do in the future.
Of course, any top student in either school would not need to worry since he/she would gain entry in elite colleges anyway. The same goes for top students in ‘lesser’ JCs…
FYI, my DD was not accepted by NUSHS but gained admission to RGS. So there was no basis for comparison. But we have no complaints.
