Thank you everybody. Will need to get her registered for after school care and make arrangements on the transport to school. Not forgetting getting her uniforms and also textbooks.

A lot of things to arrange, like how much to give her for pocket money. Is $5 too much per day? When I was primary school I only get $2/- per day.

First of all congrats n welcome you.

I give my boy $1 per day.. For long day I give him $2.. It's enough for him if he dun buy any cold drinks from stall.

Wow $2, not sure enough money for my girl to buy food. She is a big eater with huge appetite but she's not fat but her metabolism is really high. Even when she goes child care now with food provided, we still need to put buns in her bag. 😛

Maybe I will get her a small purse with a compartment. $2 for everyday pocket money and $3/ for emergency use.
One plate of rice/noodles is usually $1. If she don't buy sweet drinks, should be enough.

Just received a letter from school last night. Forest Adventure is in Aug instead of Nov.

Your child is in P2? For P1 students the Forest Adventure is 30-31Oct & 4-5Nov 2014.

Yes, my kid is in P2. Never know the dates for P1 & P2 are so far apart.

Wow! This page has reached 127 pages!

First and foremost, welcome all new parents to Palm View! Like what many current parents said here...the school experience so far is great ! If you are unaware, one of the teachers, Mr Thomas Low maintains a Facebook page where he will give regular updates on school events...you have to add him to receive information...I enjoy reading all his posts so far, his updates are timely and he relates to us more as a parent than a teacher. I got to meet him at the open house & spoke to him briefly. He is passionate about science education and his methods ,I must say , are \"unconventional\" yet interesting.

            https://www.facebook.com/thomaslowict

In his recent fb post, he mentioned that he has launched his youtube video channel where he archives all his educational videos and he shares it with us...take a look

            http://www.youtube.com/user/hunktom/videos

Also any possibility to request for Mr Low to open up the Facebook to the public instead of sending him invitation? Will reach more parents this way..Cyanocrash, since you are in school often, anyway you can relay this message to Mr Low?

Actually… do bear in mind that the FB page that Mr Low created is not an official page. It was meant as a platform for him to share with fellow parents the activities that went on in school. And as a rep of the school as well, he has a responsibility to manage and control the activities that goes on in that page. Hence, it would be easier to manage if it is not set to public.

                  Dear fatmommy

                  Re name tag

Is there a standard text like full English name or simply for eg. ‘Mary Tan’?
School can do so much.. most importantly.. it is the parents that need to have right attitude and mindset. But for most parents.. it is difficult because our system forces us to measure our kids' success based on their results. A 5 marks dip will get the parents in panic mode and start thinking about tuition.. hahahahha.

Its never easy.. it's a constant battle at home for me too. Wife will panic.. and I will pull her back and ask her to let go.. focus on our kids' effort instead of the results.

This is true and I completely agree. Am already finding myself teetering on the edge of tuition / enrichment classes.

But no. I will endeavour to stand firm. Wish me luck! 😓

Stay away from dark side, we must!!! [schwing schwing light saber]

                        Sorry. Childhood flashback O.O
