      Hi All,

My boy will be in P1 next yr and we are wondering if it is possible for us to travel from 18 Feb to 1 Mar 2015? CNY will be on 19 and 20 Feb. Will the sch be ok with child being away fr sch for 1 week? Thanks! πŸ™‚

Hi, I think as a general rule. the school discourages parents from taking the child out of school for vacation during the school term. This is usually stated in the notification they sent out every term.

The School discourages travelling during school term BUT the decision is ultimately that of the parents - as long as a letter of excuse is given, the pupil will be \"allowed\"to be excused from lessons. I know of DD's classmates who do that, as the pupil is going back China for CNY and it does not make sense to go back just for 3 days. So it is a matter of choice, to weigh against the opportunity costs of the pupil missing the lessons.

i think the school discourages is most importantly so that the child dont miss any lessons (TNS is very fast paced). Also, MOE will be changing the curriculum for next year P1.. Knowing this i think all the more i never want to bring my child out of school during school term so she doesnt miss any lesson. Besides, they just started P1 which is a huge transition for them and missing classes may means they take longer to settle into school.

But its really up to the parents ultimately.

Personally I won't. Always tell my child she is a student, her responsibility is going to school.. Coz i know a lot generation X nowadays dont take their work seriously, so I dont want to instill such thoughts into her.

                hi tns parents,

For pri1 , I understand that the children will be in pm session. Would like to chk , what is your p1 child schedule like... what time wake up.. what time do homework.. I am a ftwm, I need to work out time to supervise her homework..
The problem is my girl hit the bed at 930 and I reach home at 7. i wonder if it will be a better idea to put her in student care so that others could help her..
Where are you staying? my DD reach home abt 7 as well... She eats dinner, shower and do her homework (or piano practice if no homework for that day), revise spelling before calling it a day at about 9.30pm too.

She is taking the shuttle bus.. which is faster than fetching her with car coz gates open only after 6.45pm when all the school buses has left the compound.

The student care supervises them with homework too i was told.
so if you are worried then it may be a good option to send her to the YMCA student care in school.

I cant tell you abt her mornings coz she has already joined CCAs in school but i try to ensure she wakes up between 7.30 to 8.30am daily so that it will not be tiring and shocking when she needs to go AM session. So 7am she packs quite a bit of activities like doing some MUMMY's homework (makes it a habit now for her to do assessments before play = important work before play), piano lesson at 10am, CCAs at 10am, read her books, watch a lil TV on non CCA and piano lesson days before heading to take the bus at 11.40am. I am worried making her sleep till 9 or 10am (except school holidays) can cause bad habits later..so as long as she has 10-11 hours sleep daily...

for you if your child is going p1 next year, then its only 1 year of PM session, p2 they will be in AM session back in Marine Crescent in 2016.

                Good luck !

perhaps ask your son's three P1 subject Tr (English, Maths, Chinese) -
How much school work will he will be missing, if he is absent from school for more than one week ? (from 18 Feb to 1 March 2015)

Ask the 3 Subject Tr -
to list down in detail what worksheets from which workbook, or what class exercises (from which starting page, to which ending page) your son need to bring home to do, and to submit to Tr, after he return back school, from CNY break.

As you know, everyday in school, there are classwork exercises to be done, in class.
                  TN teach at fast pace
If your son does not complete them before leaving for happy holiday break, this means that after he return from CNY break, he will have lots of \"back-log\" class assignment, to catch up.
This may stress him, since he also need to do his current school workload, after CNY trip.

Find out also, if there are any Term tests ?
If there happen to be any Term tests that clash with your holiday schedule -
suggest that you let your son sit for all the tests first, before bringing him overseas.
As All individual Term Tests, account for a certain weightage, towards the final marks / score, in end of P1 Term 4,
you would not want your son, to miss out any Term tests, for the 3 subjects.

Hi all, is this also a place to exchange Tao Nan uniforms by end of this year?

                    I’m looking for
Girl pinafore (size XS or S), blouse (size 28 or 30) for P1
Boy pants (size M24) for P2, shirt size 30

                    I’ll be giving away
Boys shirt (size 28) and pants (size 28), since hardly worn.

HI Jeanyard, erm maybe still a bit too early now.. Maybe end Term 4..
But take note the kids will get \"Thinner\" in the middle.. hahah
we bought size 30 pe shirt for our DD but it ended up as an off-shoulder top so had to another 2 pcs of size 28 and keep the size 30 for later use...
