      Hi

I need to clarify an understanding for the minimum age requirement to take grade one rad exam at 7 years old. Does it go by calendar year or birthday month? Meaning to say those born in 2008 can take rad grade one exam in April 2015 or not? Or is it a case whereby those born before April 2008 can take the exam but not those born in or after April 2008? Anyone can help? Thanks.
From my understanding, the child has to turn 7 before taking Grade One exam. I read it somewhere in the RAD syllabus.

        Oh My Gosh:
Ballet is like piano.. you can skip grades, but your DD must shows that she is capable of dancing the steps required at a higher level.

It requires more leg/ calf power.
        .
Saw one girl born 2008, while her older sister born 2007.
Both sisters started young, since N2.
The younger one tagged along with her older sister, danced in the same ballet class as her sister (2007 born.)

        In April 2013 -
the younger 2008 born girl had passed the \"Pre-primary\" RAD grade.

This year April 2014 (just a few months ago), the younger girl just passed her RAD \"Primary\" grade, together with her older sister.
By right, 2008 born cohort would have only just cleared \"Pre-primary\" grade, this year.
So, this little girl is advanced one grade , ahead of her 2008 born peers.
London examiners prepared the ballet certificate, ready in June.
The cert arrived in Sg in July by air flight, then given to the local Tr here.
She obtained her ballet cert from her Tr, in early August.

Can, because she started learning ballet, from as young as N2.
had already built quite a strong foundation, the fundamentals.
(is not that she had zero ballet background.)

Because she is ready for the exam, so Tr let this 2008 born take \"Primary\" grade exam this year, one grade ahead of her peers born in the same year.
        Is on a \"case by case\" basis.

Come next year April 2015 -
This younger one will take RAD Grade 1, together with her older sister. (born 2007).

I think need not. For my dd, she is a Dec kid so at the point of taking exam Grade 1 she had not officially turned 7. But that was a few years back (she is now 11 and had taken her Grade 5 exam this year), not sure if the rules had changed. But I am sure she is not the only one, cos there are a few P5 girls who took the same Grade 5 exam earlier this year and they also had not reached the official min age 11.

The age requirements for Grade 1 used to be 7 years at the point you register/ take the exam. In 2013, RAD becomes stricter and the new ruling is that the girl needs to be 7 years old on 1 January of the year she is taking the examinations. In other words, unless DD is born on 1 January, she should be in Primary 2 the year she is allowed to take Grade 1 exams.

1 September (for exam sessions taking place between September and December), in the year the exam takes place:

All along, RAD ballet exam Is held in April each year.

Only once a year. Only in April, not other month.

How come now suddenly appear another RAD exam in September ?
Means can choose to take RAD exam either in April or Sep ?
                  Wasn’t like that last time.

September exam is for higher grades like Interf, Adv 1 & 2:
The VOCATIONAL GRADED EXAMINATION IN DANCE syllabus:
•comprises examinations at six levels from Intermediate Foundation to Solo Seal Award
•is suitable for candidates form the age of 11 years.

                      Grades 1-5\t : 7
Even if younger girl skip 2015 Grade 1 exam, she can still take 2016 Grade 2 exam, together with her older sister.

This way, she is still one grade ahead in advance, of her 2008 born peers.

Yes exactly, thus I mentioned before \"skipping\" of exams is fine as long as the girl is ready for the exams she is taking 🙂
