All About Ballet

Agreed totally that keep calm and possibilities are endless!
After speaking to 4 cc and 4 ballet schools and going for 3 auditions for a higher grade amongst us 3 set of parents, we finally resolve our problem of a few pages ago. Morale of the story: keep looking, don't give up hope, speak to more parents and teachers and be a more proactive parent in asking endless questions going forward and somehow you will find the most suitable solutions.
And lastly, a big thank you to all kind mummies here who have pm me to share your contacts, really appreciate it in times of need like this! :thankyou: -
2 Angels Mum:
DD is also born in 2006 and skipped Grade 1 as well - fully understand your anxiety before and relief thereafterHi,
Just to share.
My DD loves ballet so she wants to pursue it further. Therefore, we are considering DSA route. Like most parents here faced, my DD would not attain Grade 5 by P6. It was really demoralising when I learnt this fact.
Yr2013-DD(born in yr 2006) P1, so took the Pre-Primary exam in Yr2014 Mar.
After calculation, she could only attain Grade 4 by P6. So I spoke to the manager of the school and he told me he would check with her Tr if my DD can skip Grade 1 exam and take Grade 2 exam in Yr 2015. However, there are certain things to note. If she is allowed to skip Grade, she would be required to take more than 1 lesson (more lessons means more $$) in order to push her up.
After consultations, Tr gave the green light for DD to skip but DD need to do lesson thrice a week in order to catch up with those who had already in Grade 2. Tr also mentioned that if she couldn't catch up then Tr won't recommend her to take the Grade 2 exam. After 6 months, she finally caught up (phew!). Now able to revert back to normal ( 1 lesson for training and 1 lesson for coaching for exam) since exam is in 6 months time.
Maybe DD is lucky to have good Trs to push her. But I think she put in a lot of effort by practising on her own at home.
Parents who wished to pursue DSA route for their child should speak to their Trs or ballet schools.Just need to keep in mind that hard work need is required to build the foundation right.
Oh! just realise that there is also a recommended guide for training hours - about 70 hours each for Grade 1-3.
Keep Calm and Possibilities are Endless.

so, not true that one cannot skip a grade. -
Hi
For those with dd who skipped one grades, can I check with you, does your dd still need to attend the extra coaching class for the grade you skipped? Is this a must attend thing, and still need to pay for the coaching class for grade one despite not taking grade one exam for example?? And if no need to attend, any difficulty faced when joining the regular class for higher grade? Or it is fine and will not lagged behind as long as put in more hard work?
Reason for asking is becos some school still want my dd to attend the coaching class even if not taking the exam for that grade whereas some don’t when I asked.
Thanks for sharing if you can. -
Another question, can we take 2 exams at one sitting? For example, take grade one exam under teacher A and grade 2 exam under teacher B? Any requirements stated in RAD website that strictly prohibit this? I have heard of taking two exams under same teacher but not different teachers, so want to find out.

Yes, can take 2 exams for the same year (same or different teachers is not a concern). But problem is your DD have to remember 2 sets of dance steps and 2 character dances. So if possible, just skip Grade 1, unless you really wish to have the Grade 1 certificate as well. -

DD still did the regular and coaching class (with her class) for Grade 1 as if she is taking the exams. Except she cannot take the Grade 1 exam but went on to Grade 2 with the same class after their exams. In other words, she did not \"skip\" as if she did 2 grades in 1 year, but rather, she could not take Grade 1 as she is underaged and did not meet RAD age requirement. She is now Primary 2 and is learning Grade 3 (youngest in her class). But her foundation is strong because she already learnt ballet for 4 years when she took her Grade 2 (she got a distinction).
Hope it helps. -
My girl of 5 years old this yr, been asking me about going to ballet classes.
I checked with the cc near bukit panjang but timing doesn’t suit my working schedule.
Any recommendations for Town area school or Choa Chu Kang ballet school on weekend evenings or weekdays evening ballet classes?
Usually how is the course fees like? -
