Any parents here with girls in the cross country CCA?
Understand the school has employed an external trainer for this CCA. He has re-scheduled the trainings to days when the girls are having short days like Tue and Thu, instead of the original Mon, Wed and Fri. I am rather unhappy with the new training days cos my girls do not get to come home early on the only day, ie, Thu anymore.
And this trainer is rather demanding in expecting them to train outside school. Eg. this Thu is a short day (ends at 11am) since it is having Teacher’s Day celebration. Yet he wants the girls to train in MacRitchie at 3.45pm. What are the girls to do during that 4.45 hrs. He said it is to allow them to go back to their primary schools to visit their teachers. My girls’ primary school is just next to my house. Do they have to travel home and then travel back to MacRichite??? The trainer is being ridiculous and unreasonable.
Any complaint from other parents? Can we write a petition to the school and complain? -
Daranic,
What is there to complaint and write petition? In fact all the CCA regardless is it sport, UG, music or dance ensemble got their hectic schedule to fulfilled.
Cedar is very good and proud in their Track & Field team and Cross country are their niche CCA that help win them numerous National champion in respective division over the years.
I am not surprised at all for their hectic schedule in training.
You can either voice it out to the respective head of that CCA and tell them about your concern and ask your DD whether she still like to continue and be in her current CCA or not.
If you feel that her CCA is too time consuming for your child, you can drop out of tat CCA and transfer to another CCA where there is lesser time for your child to commit.
Dun worry about the CCA your daughter in and the amount of time she got to spend, the school culture and the teachers will ensure that all the students will be all rounded in their CCA and their studies and it’s a good practice for the child to learn how to prioritise and juggle between the study and CCA time.
In fact, all schools involved in sport CCA usually have a very hectic schedule to face. And this is the reality in every school.
Btw, you should be more happier and contend that now your daughter have to commit 2 days of her CCA time compare to the original 3 days she have before. -
abachee:
It is not 2 days now. It is still 3 days as previous arrangement, except that trainings are on Tue, Thu and Fri/Sat. Initially it was to be Sat, but cos some of the girls don't want to train on weekend, he opened up Fri as another option.Daranic,

I am NOT complaining about the hectic schedule. But rather the timing of the trainings. It used to on days when the school hours end at 3.15pm on most days. But now that trainings are on Tue, Thu and Fri/Sat, these few days are their short days, so they have to stay longer in school on almost all 5 days. -

Just wanted to pop by and say that not everybody ends early on tuesdays, thursdays or fridays. In fact, if im not wrong, upper secondary ends late on tuesdays. The reason why cca cannot start early on thursdays and fridays is because of third language. It is hard to find a suitable day and time to please everyone. Even the trainer himself had his own schedules.
I was in a uniformed group, and also had to wait for CCA to start. This is a very common occurence especially if you choose to be in a track. Cedar's niche is in track and it is known they have the long hours of training. While waiting, your dd can finish up her work, attend consultation lessons etc.I think Cedar is already very reasonable as CCA hours are about 2 to 3 hours every session. Cedar locks up the doors by 7pm, and the auntie chases all of us out by 6.30PM. In other secondary schools, the school gate closes at 9PM etc.
As a secondary school student, it's pretty hard to go home early especially if you are in a sports cca. But its great fun, and prepares you for the even longer hours in JCs (where you probably dont get off before 9PM on days with CCA). So long your dd has good time management, uses the time wisely to do her work, when she gets home she can have her free leisure time.
If you really have concerns, I suggest you speak to the teachers directly instead as they will be in a better position to address your concerns.
Cheers! -
Would like to know is there a lot of movement (refers to transferred students from other IP school) in Year 3 of the Cedar IP Program. Would like to get feedback on how is the IP program so far? My dd thinks of transferring to there at Year 3. TIA.

DD says so far the school works is manageable.
As for transfer, don't think it's allowed. Can call school to find out more. -

Cedar Girls who did well for Sec 2 are offered choice to switch to IP at yr 3. Switching from another school is a minority. Cedar ip has been much refined after a few years. Your dd in scgs right? -
