See you Favianboy.
DS is looking forward to join the family.
Am wondering when enter HCI, will it be too stressed? Any tuition required to catch up boh... :?
Just to share that my ds doesn't find his Sec 1 life very stressful. There are many other activities (CIP, sabbatical etc) besides academic and he seems quite relax over the weekends, which is good. Accordingly to him, as long as the boys pay attention in class, do the homework, less gaming and social media, it should be okay. The most stressful time was during the project period. Now that EOY is coming and he seems quite motivated to study for his exam.
The teachers in HCI seems very approachable, the boys could consult the teachers at after school hours and there are remedial classes for those who need it. Ds said notes are shared among the boys generously. Overall, ds thinks that he has learnt a lot of things (even other than academic) and it is definitely a very fruitful year for him. -
compared to some other IP schools, i think Year 1 in HCI is not stressful. They donβt have as many projects going on simultaneously as other schools, and i think the homework level is extremely manageable (compared to p6)! School hours are quite short (end officially at 130 pm if you don;t have extra lessons), and they have a lot of non-academic things fit into their timetable so not everyday is very tiring (in terms of concentration).
like Song22 pointed out, thereβs a bit of stress dealing with project competition deadlines and nearing exams, but other than that, it is manageable. -
thanks Lexis and Song22 for the kind advices. As ds is kind of weak in languages, thus is having enrichment programmes for the languages. The fees is drawing a big part of my income already
Not meant to be stingy on that expense, but more to not wanting these tuition or what take up a lot of his energy beside the school activities. But the 'kiasium' in me worry that if to stop all these he will have problem coping with the demanding requirement of an IP school.
Secondary school is a different 'ball-game' now with more subjects coming up. anyway if he is able to cope then probably can stop all these tuition thing and work on those he will be weak in later.
Once again thanks for the advices. :snuggles: -

btw, he's going to the DSA Camp during the Marking days.

My son is going too. He likes camps and good chance to know the sch better. Quite a few in his sch didnβt bother going, prob decided on another sch. For us, one main draw f NUSH is No national exams and for HCI, is the holistic education n SAP environment. After PSLE, think of A level, really ζζγDo you think it could be less stress in NUSH (impression fm d preview) based on yr DS1 experience? Tia.

Heard that in HCI, students can be exempted from year end exam in those subjects they are good in.
If they are exempted, does the school have any special programs for them while the rest sit for exams? -

No there isn't any special program. The school only released the exemption list quite late as perhaps they wanted the boys to carry on with the lessons. The boys just do not need to sit for that exam during that particular day.Heard that in HCI, students can be exempted from year end exam in those subjects they are good in.
