My DD is in Year 1 so RA is not something for immediate consideration. However I wonder if RA would take up so much time and effort that the child is effectively precluded from pursuing other interests e.g. competitive sport.
It depends on the child. Some are so full of energy, so efficient and so good at the subject that they do RA and a heavy CCA as well, and still cope fine with the rest of their schoolwork. My daughter loves her sleep, leisure and outside-school activities a lot, so we didn't push her when she said she wasn't keen to apply for an RA. She also hasn't shown any very keen interest in any one subject, so we weren't sure she would find the effort and commitment worthwhile. There will always be more chances to study, but teenage years will only come round once. I would say that the main factor (aside from being selected) is whether the child is interested and committed enough to see it through.
Thanks for your insight. -
may i know what are the subjects offer in sec 1?

Thanks for your insight.[/quote]Hi! ^^
I am in a RA and personally I love the atmosphere and being in the class really much. Though the work can be a bit hectic or hard to understand at times, but I find that what keeps me going in RA is the wanting to find out more in pretty much everything about the subject.
Other than knowing more about the subject on a greater level, benefits would also include meeting like minded people who enjoy the subject as much as you do which means class discussions are super fun and we bring in our own external readings to enrich the lesson sometimes. We do get to head for some events (which are also open to other RP students though because its compulsory for us, there wouldn't be a case of missing the signups) and meet experts in their fields or people from other schools who have a love for the field.
I agree that the main factor is interest and sometimes, we only find out we do have an interest pretty late, which for me was near the end of Year 2 but its never too late. Plus, RA can be considered to be exploratory in nature as well, where we know more of the subject on an in depth level before deciding before if this would be the field we would want to get into.
On the note of balancing work and our lives, I do admit that sometimes I forsake a bit of sleep just to finish my assignments but I do know people as well who are in a competitive CCA, a lead board, and excel in many subjects on top of their RA. Hence, I feel that different people have different ways of managing their time, or perhaps prioritize our days differently.
Not being in RA doesn't constitute a lack of interest in the subject nor does it mean that you can't read the subject at H3 in JC ^^ So I would say take things at your own pace and there will be other platforms to learn and grow like CCA, Lead Boards, or perhaps outside of school through your service to the community. Everything teaches a different life lesson and so though RA is a platform to grow academically, its not the only platform.
I hope this helps! ^^

Hi, I don't think there is any black and white on this. However, I observe that the class chair and vice chairs are usually nominated for SLT. In year 1, the class chair and vice chairs are on rotation basis. So if your dd is interested in SLT, she should at least exhibit her leadership qualities by volunteering to be class chair or vice chair. This might be what her friend mean by self nominate. -
Hi kk22! Actually, your daughter doesn’t necessarily need to self nominate in order to be selected for the SLT program, she can ask her classmates to nominate her. She can literally nominate herself for the SLT program if she wants to though. It might increase her chances of getting selected.

I just wonder how to convert the test score to GPA point. Could anyone share this information to me?
TIA! -
Can anyone share the RGS Sec 1 booklist? Also, what is the recommended number of school uniforms, PE attire, ties, culottes, etc.?
Would like to purchase ahead of time to avoid the crowd after posting day.
Thanks for your help.
