Hi.
You are correct. This is how we preparing to advise him. and we doing that so far. If he not accepting the NUSH Dsa offer, that means he cant get into NUS through his T-score? will it be a negative feedback?

Also if he achieve RI or NUSH COP, he is automatically get in as per his preference? Or is there any other factor after achieved required T-score also?

He can always apply to NUSH thru PSLE posting. He will not be discriminated for having refused to accept the CO thru DSA

But this is likely to be a moot point. NUSH takes in around 10% from PSLE posting so the COP is likely to be higher than RI ( as also seen from the previous years) . So if he gets higher than NUSH's COP, he is probably safely over RI COP too.

My two cents worth both are great schools. But if I were him, I would wait for PSLE posting. He seems pretty strong academically. So it is a risk worth taking.

So fast the S1 booklet was given out . During my dd 1 times , only given out on the day of PSLE release result

Depend on your ds result. My personal view.

1st & 2nd choice can be slightly above your ds t-score.
3rd & 4th choice around the same or slightly lower than your ds t-score.
5th & 6th choice below your ds t-score. (On safer side, the 6th choice must be at least 5 marks below your ds t-score).

My personal view.

If a child score 240. If her dream school lowest t-score last year is 245, you can take the \"risk\" to put as 1st choice.

Than second choice choose school which is slightly higher than 240.

For safest side... put last choice (6th choice) at least 5-10 points lower than 240. (eg. 230+ school) - to me this is very important. You don't want to end up with NO school of your choice and being posted to some ULU secondary which is far from your house.

Try to see the trend of the school lowest COP too. You may see some neighbourhood school has a trend of COP keep going up by 1 or 2 points every year. You have to give this school some \"allowance\" too.

I personally feel, the best is the go into your child dream school. Even the COP is much lower than her PSLE score.

Yes very true and we've seen dd's friends making such decisions and are happy in their choice school.

The school with a higher COP is not necessarily the best choice for the child. Do visit the open house, talk to other parents, etc... surprisingly the culture/ environment can be very different and the child must feel comfortable with.

BTW, last year's COP for those schools in the 23x and 24X range generally went up by 2-4 points versus the year before. Rather curious how things will play out this year.

value added schools are real. despite moe removing the award and recognising best practices instead. Some schools (despite low COP) do see greater improvement in students than others
