        pinkiepirate:
As a new mum (my son is 13.5 months), I'd be interested to hear from all the experienced mums here about how they deal with being a FTWM, how they manage to handle the baby (or children) and the hubby and the household, pets, etc.
Hi pinkiepirate, I have a maid to take care of my elderly parents and DD. Even then hardly have time for myself. My mum used to take care of household stuff until she fell ill so I now handle the household stuff too. Also Need to monitor DD's school work via teleconference or she tends to let the work slide until the last minute. And take care of parents meds, hospital visits, etc. Can be quite a challenge. Esp when all the req overlap like one parent in hospital while DD has a concert to attend and groceries have run out!

Who looks after DS while you are at work?

Hello Soh WL and welcome! Thanks for compiling the list..and NOT leaving me out! Your eldest DD is the same age as my DD. Must be fun working for Hubby - can take offence with the boss without getting into trouble. No need to apply for leave too!

My mum came to visit for a while over Jan/Feb - it really made a lot of difference to have even one extra pair of helpful hands.

Yes though there are own issues with IL's staying with us but then when we see the broader picture we try or rather I try to let go these things!!

Yup - always helps to try and see the broader picture and not sweat the small stuff.

Soh_WL - thanks for compiling the list, can see why your hubby will not let you ‘quit’, obviously you are an excellent ‘employee’!

Bronzy - I send DS to a nanny during my working hours (Mon-Fri). I fetch him home every evening after work and we will all go out for dinner. By the time we get home, it is usually close to 9 pm.

From the time we get home till we sleep, all the time is given to DS. We let him play, explore, do his home practice, etc. until he decides that he’s had enough stimulation and wants to sleep. He will crawl into my arms and ask to be latched on and all of us will go to bed. Sometimes (well, most of the time actually) DS sleeps very late - last night he slept about 1.30 am! and as a result, hubby and I also usually sleep very late, haha.

Hmm, looks like a maid and a MIL are the answer? I have neither... 😢

lovekidsverymuch: You are right, but unfortunately, the nanny only helps me to go to the office… It is those times when I’m not working in the office (ie. for home matters) that I feel a helping hand is good. Nothing gets done when I’m at work since nobody is at home… sigh. Hubby was always in favour of getting a maid but I have always opposed. Told him we can consider when we have another child. But yes, thank God for the nanny, so at least I can go to work knowing my son is being cared for.

lovekidsverymuch - completely agree with your wise words! that’s exactly the reason that i gave to hubs for not getting a maid. Even when we have another child, I will still wait till they’re older (can talk) before considering getting a maid. Nervous la…
