All About Full-Time Maids

Heh, I didn’t know maids are under warranty.
She claimed her mom passed away in Dec (I posted about it here) and then she already wanted to go back. But she was still repaying her loan.
Come May when her loan is finished, that’s when she wants to go back (we expected this coming when we declined for her to go back in Dec).
lovekidsverymuch, as I said, I think she dislikes me nitpicking on her lack of quality of housework. And she prefers to work in a household when she can be alone at home, with very little supervision.
So as Dinah pointed out, I have a right to not pay for her tickets then? But carebear said I have to pay? So do I? -

I agree with Dinah. If maid initiates the return, she has to pay for her own ticket back home.
I had a maid who simply refused to wait till her 2 years is up even though it’s merely 4 months away. I made her pay for her own ticket back home simply because I felt she had made my life a living hell when she was here. If she had been a good maid and had an honest good reason to go home (like mother dying etc), I would pay for the ticket out of kindness.
My aunt’s maid too said she wanted to go back because of family, but in a blink, news was she simply wanted to go to HK to work. -

Since her mom is dead already ... would going back bring her back again? She claimed her mom passed away in Dec (I posted about it here) and then she already wanted to go back. But she was still repaying her loan.
Come May when her loan is finished, that's when she wants to go back (we expected this coming when we declined for her to go back in Dec).

Many maids had asked my 1st maid, how could she work with me (SAHM too) for so long (6years) as they'll quit as quickly as they can as females employers at home will give them hell, whine and breathe down their necks (something I don't do as i hate to nag). My maid was confused at first as she thought all employers are as nice as me  (blowing own trumpet) :rotflmao: -
Dinah, I’m sure her reasons are not real for wanting to go back. I’m sure she would be back in Singapore very soon.
Within these 6 months, she has already bought so many pairs of footwear as well jewellery. So I don’t think it’s because of the sons. But really, the reason is not important to me anymore.
Now my question is if it’s possible to have 2 maids in the house for a couple of weeks so that the old one can train the new one? I brought it up with my current maid and she said she heard (see? She knows of so many things!) we can’t have 2 maids in the house. I also understand this ruling but it’s only for a transfer period. Is that possible? -

I once asked the agent who pays for the air ticket if maid wants to go back, and she said the employer has to if no longer under the warranty period. But you need to check your contract regarding this matter.Heh, I didn't know maids are under warranty.

If she justs finishes her loan and wants to go home, it is likely that she will not have enough money to pay for the air ticket, so again the employer has to foot the bill. -

Hi madinked,

It's possible to have 2 maids at the same time but only for 2 weeks. Otherwise you have to pay double maids levy to MOM i think. We've done this twice previously. Both cases the new maid was recommended by our old maid. The upside is a smoother transition. The downside is the old maid would pass too much info to the new one, e.g. how many phone cards and gifts we bought her, how much we paid her in x'mas and CNY etc. So we have to match the perks we gave to the old one else the new one won't be happy. Also, some bad practices might be passed to the new one. -
Minnie, but it’s possible because you have 2 children/elderly + children? Right now, we only have a toddler at home so MOM may not allow us 2 maids at any one time.

Yep, MOM has a one-to-one \"policy\" i.e., eligible for one maid for each child/elderly in the house. -
Can also claim that your house is very large (have to be correct lah), and that you entertain a lot and therefore need the help. A friend of mine has 4 kids (last 2 are twins) in a huge house. So they managed to get THREE maids.
