2014 PSLE Discussions and Strategy

what was last year (2013) Cut off point for Cedar : both IP and O level ?
-
Lani:
Cedar is not a SAP Secondary school. My dd scored 250+3 for her PSLE, for IP , anyone can advise which below schools have better chance of getting in, lived in the central.
1) Cedar
2) SCGS, or
3) CHIJ st nicholas.
hence, +3 for Mother Tongue : not applicable for Cedar, but applicable for CHIJ St Nicholas, because St Nicholas is a SAP school.
So if you apply for
Cedar / SCGS : your score is based on 250
CHIJ St Nicholas : your score is based on 253 (after add in +3)
this year (2014)
Cedar intake for 2015 Sec1 :
150 seats for IP, another 150 seats for O level
150 seats is inclusive of appeal cases.
Not exclude appeal cases.
150 seats is not a lot. -

Cedar and SCGS almost sure. St nicks high chance!
I dont think this is correct info for cedar ip. Maybe have chance for scgs ip. Maybe can consider tjc as well.[/quote]
Thanks kiasugrandmaster; do you mean no chance for Cedar IP and St Nic IP ? -
Thanks for your analysis, kiasugrandmaster. -
With a score of 253 plus 2, should we choose St Nic IP or SCGS IP first, since both are leading to the same JC. We like both school but canโt seem to decide which to choose first. Should we try NJC and MGS IP since their cut off point is higher last year?
Thank you. -

Last year cut for ip for cedar and scgs was exactly the same at 251 and both are not SAP. Based on the top ten percent of this year cohort being 249 , I concluded \"almost sure\" .
At an open house I attended, the principal's advice was to put dream schools in first 3 choices and realistic choices from 4th to 6th as the selection is primarily based on the pupil's score and not order of choice. -

I went to open house with a friend whose dd scored 250. Spoke to p. p said 250 may have to appeal if it's ip. Their o level cut-off is already 249 last year.
Hence, it's the p's discretion for appeal cases. She may admit students with as high as 247, depending on factors other than results. -

MGS IP is leading to IB, the rest A levels.
+2 only if applying to SAP secondary schools : doesn't apply for SCGS/MGS/NJC
Besides COP, see if above factors help clear your thoughts. -
Do you think I should let my child choose a school (COP 188) that is very near to my house?

This is assuming that this year COP remains at 251 or higher. If COP drops to 250, then likely she can get in. No harm putting it as a choice if that is the preferred school.Yes, Not so correct info for cedar ip.
