For biology and chemistry textbooks, is it better to purchase the print version or e-book or both? TIA.

      Keen to know this too

Someone told me that physical copy was better. For e-book, you cannot download to your hard disk i.e. you need internet connection whenever you want to read the book. There could be a problem when the connection is slow or worse when there is no connection or the website is down.

Your dd will also be in NY next year? Your ds is in HCI right?

May I know what is the promotion criteria for NYGH?

What happens when a child cant meet the promotion criteria- retain, o level class or promote but subject to fulfilling the condition next yr etc.
Any info is much appreciated. Thank you!
For Sec 1s, even if they did not meet the promotion criteria (MSG <= 4) they will still be promoted. For Sec 2s, they will be channeled to Sec 3 O Level class if did not meet promotion criteria (MSG <= 4) and that's only if the child consistently did not do well in most subjects from Sec 1 to Sec 2, even with additional supplementary classes and help from teachers. For those one-off cases or only pull down by one or two subjects, they will not be channeled to O level class. For Sec 3 and Sec 4, if they did not meet promotion criteria (MSG <= 4 for Sec 3 and MSG <= 3 for Sec 4), they will be given a second chance, i.e. do a re-exam at the end of the year. If they still cannot pass then they can choose to retain or transfer out.

You need MSG of <4 to be promoted each year. Note the weightage for subjects may not be 1. I think languages carry 1.5 weightage but best you check with NY whether my understanding correct. sec 2 who does not meet MSG 4 will be placed in O level class in sec 3. MSG ā¤ needed to go to HCI.

Thank you for yr prompt reply. Is there any special HCL requirement to promote to next level or just incorporated in msg calculation only? I cant seem to find info on their school website.[/quote]There's no special HCL requirement. Just need to pass both languages (i.e. >= 50%) plus MSG <= 4 (for Sec 1 to 3) or MSG <= 3 (for Sec 4)

Weightage for Language Art for Sec 1 and 2 is 2. For HCL, it is 1. For Sec 3 and 4, weightages for both Language Art and HCL are 1.5

Thank you so much for all the detailed information regarding the promotion criteria and weightage for the 2 languages, elkniwt. Really appreciate it! šŸ˜„

Hi there, my DD urgently needs textbooks that have been used for NYGH sec 1 (year 2014) for her preparation. Does any parent/student of sec1 (2014) have spare or used textbooks for sale/loan? Please kindly pm here. Thank you very much.
