      Worried parent 888:
      Hi all,

My son qualifies for ACS (I) but we are not from a well-to-do background. We can afford the fees but my son is concerned that he subject to peer pressure from the rich kids and feel inferior..
It depends on if he has enough self confidence and will stand up to the peer pressure. I personally think well to do or not background has nothing to do with a person's character or performance in school. Teach him to select friends that would not consider family background as a criteria for friendship.

        Hi,

I have checked on the school fees of other schools and found out that the fees of other schools like Raffles Institution and Hwa Chong Institution are about the same as Anglo Chinese School (Independent)

        Hope this helps.

        Thanks. šŸ˜„

                twilight:
Just want to say that in my year, there are a lot of kids from rich families there. I think only 2 person in my class stay in HDB. Many stay in landed or condo. On school days it's fine, since we just eat in the canteen, but when I go out with my friends, the bill for food can be up to $20 per person, plus cinema and starbucks, one outing can be around $50.

                Hearsay...

There was this ACS boy from an ordinary family staying in HDB. After prolonged exposure to the rich boys in ACS, he developed hatred against his parents for being \"ordinary\".

It's more than the sch fees that any parent need to consider before sending sons to ACS.

$500 is a lot. Not forgetting daily expenses such as foods and travelling will add on to parent burden.

when the boys get together after school for leisure, watching a movie with popcorn and coke or a meal at a restaurant is chickenfeed for those who can afford. but if they hang out at starbucks frequently, that may take a toil on the ones who do not come from well-to-do families.

Well, there will be always a gap between rich man son and a poor man son.
