Put it in another way... Not all top scorers want to go to RJC/HCI, and not all top scorers are from RJC/HCI. Good that we are moving towards \"all schools are good schools\"!! -

Nanyang JC like other JCs has its own strengths. It produced at least a minister so I wonder why it is passing up a chance to enter Nanyang?I can't believe it! My son has 6A1s and nett score of 2, and he's thinking of going to Nanyang JC! With encouragement from my husband.
What are they thinking? People are clamouring for RJC or HC and here they are, passing up this chance!!!
Sorry, just ranting. Good results also no use. -
I’m currently looking for a private tutor (preferably male) to coach my DS in H2 Chemistry. He will be taking his ‘A’ Levels this year. We are staying in the East.
Appreciate any referral to a responsible & experienced tutor. TIA!! -

There is no right or wrong. :imanangel: -
NJ or HC? What a nice dilemma.

My colleague’s dd scored 6 A1s but chose to DSA to IB schools. She eventually got into SJII with scholarship.

The 2 years in jc are short and hectic. And with pw capable of making the nicest student curse and swear silently, being in a jc of his choice/liking helps to lessen the difficult journey. Having good old secondary friends in the same jc is God-sent also. -

RJC and HCI does have its merits. But IMO, when you compare the good schools, maybe the top entire top 5, I dont think the benefits of either one really surpass each other by much.I can't believe it! I mean, if you think about it, most students might want to stay in Singapore to study. That leaves the best university programmes to NUS/NTU med and NUS/SMU Law. And this is only in the case if said student actually wants to do medicine or law. If he wants to do business, AAA or even ABB(SMU) can get him that. It really boils down to exactly what the student wants to do in uni.
Say if the student wanted to study political science or philosophy, would there be a difference if he went to RJC or NYJC? Probably not, he could still probably score BBB and get into NUS FASS. Or get a BBC and get into NTU philosophy.
Sure, if the student has made up his/her mind and wants to get into Oxbridge, HCI/RI would be the best options since they have the most success in sending their alumnus there. But if he has an interest in a local course that is not too competitive, I dont see why there is even a need to get into the best JC and score and array of As, considering the fact that A-level grades have no correlation to performance at university level.
As for my brother's case, he wants to study econs locally. He doesnt want to venture overseas and I respect his decision for that. And for econs, he only needs around a BBB/B for NUS FASS. Or for NTU econs he will need an ABC/C. That's why there is a clear dilemma. Does my brother really need to be in HCI, facing the stressful competition with his peers, or should he just head for NJC, where he would probably score well enough to read econs anyway?
