VJ HAHAAH. Bias aside, there really isn't much difference between the two academic wise. I would say pick the one closer to home. However if school culture is important to you, NJ has a more prevalent mugging culture than VJ. And if you're looking at arts fac, VJ definitely has a stronger arts programme than NJ.
How many students do u know personally in NJC to conclude that NJC has a mugging culture?
I didnt know NJC has mugging culture. I thot its VJC that has mugging culture.
My ex colleague tells me that almost everyone stays back in VJC till 9-10pm just to mug including his dd.[/quote] :rotflmao: -

Like that every jc also got mugging culture. Whether stay in school or study at home, almost every one is doing it. During my time, we were called \"chow muggers\". :rotflmao:

Chow muggers. :rotflmao: Nothing wrong with mugging, especially as the A levels will be the most important exam determining their uni admissions. It's whether these kids play just as hard at the appropriate moments.

What exactly defines mugging?

What exactly defines mugging?
Mugging is sit alone or together with some friends, wear earphones or chit chat while looking at the book once in a while. If tiring of staring at book play handphone or eat titbits. :scratchhead: -

My personal definition: spending more time staring at (or in the company of) books/notes than the amount absorbed warrants! If a good amount is being absorbed, I would just call it \"studying hard\". -

What exactly defines mugging?
My take : Studying for an extended period of time. Note it's 'extended', not 'excessive'. -

Throw in 'seeping one cup of coffee for five hours' and it's called StarbuckingJennifer:

Actually, majority of JC students wld mug till 9-10pm in school or go home to continue mugging. That's the Singapore culture.
But I agree with Skyed that VJ did have (not sure now) a strong arts programme cos of their Theatre Studies and French Lang Elective Prog (Wiki says it's discontinued in 2006). :scratchhead: It has produced a few newsreaders, actresses and hosts over the years if you check the alumni list. Oh plus some Humanities Prog (HCJC also had I think??)...
Being the top angmohish JC in the East, many peranakan or potato kids picked VJ over TJ which is \"less flamboyant\" in that sense (cos it's nestled in Bedok heartland). Many VJ kids were Easterners staying in Good Class Bungalows @ Goodman, Tanan Merah, Siglap, Tg Katong, Katong, Joo Chiat, Upp Changi, MP/St Pat's condos or Still Road/Telok Kurau pte estates.
Not sure after being IP'd if it's still the same Beverly Hills culture like in the 1990s. -
Some didn’t appear as muggers because they are the closet muggers
