Reading some of the posts I think DD's school is rather laid back, contrary to the impression people have of the school. DD did not have any supp classes until she was in P4 and each session was only 1hr. Even then, the supp classes were only once a week for maybe 2 terms, not for all 4 terms. Until now in P6, her homework is manageable. Ok, too little in my opinion. Come to think of it, during niece's time in the school, she also had very little homework and did not have to stay back in school much.


Talking to parents of some of my ex students, I hear them saying that their kids' workload is unbelievable. Homework everyday. They show me their kids tingxie and I almost fainted. I hear of P1 and P2 kids having supp classes. I look at my nephew's work and I wonder, what are these schools trying to prove? Is there some deliberate attempt for top schools to back off and the rest of the schools to go supernova academically?

So is it a good school?

Joke aside, often we choose to ignore the social background of the kids when we talk about the performance of a primary school... Perhaps for the sake of complaining.
But the truth is that most of the kids from your school are already attending external enrichment and so there's no need to further load them. There's are no fear of them wasting their time coz the parents know how to keep them occupied.

if it is just doing past year papers, I really see no purpose in staying back after school to do so.

If they go through after doing I think it is fine. My ex students had stacks of maths school papers done but school didnt go through. Worse still, they did not finish the past year PSLE questions either.

I was from Punggol Primary School in the North-east area. Seeing all the recommendations to drill with the NYPS and RGPS papers, I have a suggestion to not do the 2015 RGPS Science paper, or the preliminary examination papers from RGPS in general. I am currently enrolled in RGS and I have many friends who were from RGPS (like a third of the class?). They said that the preliminary examination papers were extremely easy compared to the PSLE papers and did a poor job of estimating their final scores. Not very sure about the NYPS papers though. But ya, papers in general are awesome for preparation (duh). Blaze through all the papers, finish prelim practice papers by July and from August-PSLE revise nonstop. Yeah.


(side note: Punggol's prelims were harder than PSLE IMO)

The enrichment classes which u sent him to are for P5 or P6? So fast can do PSLE papers :scared:[/quote]I tot it's okay to attempt PSLE papers at end of P5. Just skip those qns on topics that are not taught yet. Otherwise how to find time to work on them during normal sch days.

For my ds, he really struggles to complete the h/w being dished out this yr. They're always done JIT nowadays. Last year was more manageable iirc.
