All About Parent Volunteers (PV)

I thought NYPS might have fixed the number enrolled for Phase 2B at say 45, thus the 46th PV applicants will be rejected....[/quote]they cannot fix the Phase 2B vacancies, though they can fix the number of PV
I would class that as a blip in history, like the $50 COE. Good for those who got it, but those aspiring must not think it's the norm.hquek:

If i remember correctly, NYPS 2009 Phase 2B number of applicants is 45 and all 45 are enrolled successfully. that is fair as at least 80 hrs serves something like a guarantee....
Phase 2B is 50% of remainder vacancies after the earlier phases, and the other 50% is \"Open Cat\"under phase 2C.
NYPS tries every year to \"forecast\" the number of remainder vacancies after Phase 2A in subsequent years, and hence the number of PV taken in would roughly hover around 50% of the places after Phase 1 & 2A.
The idea is not to disappoint any PV, and generally they prefer (unspoken) PVs who stay nearby to avoid unsuccessful balloting of PV in the unlikely event that PV outnumbers Phase 2B vacancies.
Try to put yourself in the shoe of the principal. There are definitely opportunities for PV but at the same time cannot be too liberal and end up disappointing PV who are staying far away due to insufficient places in phase 2B and also unlucky in the balloting of PV who are staying further away -

MOE fixed the 40 hours as the minimum. School has discretion to require more as the needs of the school may varies.
NYPS is definitely 80 hrs...it was stated so on its online PV registration form:tankee:
I also heard that NYPS requires min 80 hrs.
TNS just requires 40 hrs, no need to exceed.
The School shall not be held responsible in the event that the \"succussful PV\" is not able to meet the minimum 80 clocked hours of volunteering service. As such, the \"successful PV\" shall not entitled to priority registration under Phase 2B.
If PV is keen and in the spirit of the PV, then it does not matter whether is 40 or 80 or 120 hours .......that is really Parent volunteer ....... -

I have been looking at the Phase 2B vacancies / balloting of NYPS for the past 12 years......it is a rare thing to ballot the PV at 2B.....they have been quite good in gauging the demand and supply .... better than forecasting the number of cars deregistering .......lolz

Why still no reply from the school about interviews do PV? Aren’t they supposed to contact the applicants by now?

while school has control over the number of PVs, they have no control over the other eligible phase 2B applicants .... and in NYPS case, the grassroots ! -
80 hrs is too tough… especially for working parents…

has been done....so guess they will continue to stick with it. I know someone who went through this route...she has an extremely successful career. -

80 hours over 50 weeks is not that bad if that can get your kid into your desired school -

wow, 120hrs, flip like the property market yah.....
duno whether it is the top school that are really top or the parents that make the school top....
