Thanks phttp and sembgal! My son recently came home with a titled compo and he was asked to write a full compo based on the title. I got quite a shock and worried abit as I think he still needs the picture by picture compo for guidance. Hope it’s one off thing!

May I know the title of the composition?

Has the teacher guided them to write in school or are they expected to go home to write and be guided by parents? 😓

Just want to check, is there any other changes to the Chinese PSLE format announced recently, besides the oral part whereby the picture conversation is now in video clip form? Any changes to Chinese compo format? Anyone knows? Thanks.

I can only recall during the P2 Briefing in my DD's school, the Chinese HOD reminded parents to speak more Mandarin and expose more Chinese reading materials to the children.

The Stimulus-based conversation will be carried out when the video is being played. That means when the video is being played, the teacher will ask questions and the child is expected to answer. I don't think the current P2s are affected by this Oral component change yet for this year. My dd will be having her first Oral picture description test in Term 2 using the old traditional format of Chinese 口试。

For English compo, school is still teaching by topic, e.g Chinese New Year. Have not gone into pictures yet.

How about for Chinese compo, is it 3 or 4 pictures now in school?
            phtthp:
            For zuo wen :
The Chinese Tr in my school said that whole year of P2 will practise 4 picture writing. She said the P2 Term 4 Chinese zuo wen test, is also 4 pic : not 1 big pic, nor 3 pic. Best to clarify with your own school
            Hi

DD’s school Chinese composition started in one big picture with some helping words and questions last week! She wrote three paragraphs for her Chinese composition.
It may be different from some other schools! :?

Hi hoo1688, my DD's school Chinese Composition is also same format as your DD's school. One big picture with helping words and written in 3 paragraphs format.

feel that Tr should guide pupils in class, to write Compo (whether English or Chinese Compo)

Parents so tired at home, hard to find time to guide them write at home. (Just my own opinion)

create a weekly timetable when the child enters primary 1.

get the child to revise consistently...although there are no exams at p1/2, discipline has to be instilled from start.
don't wait till dates are given for tests/exams to revise...that will be too late and too stressful.
                    today 1 March : Week 9.
one more week (week 10) : very fast reach end of P2 Term 1
                    Time flies !

if compare P2 with P1 last year, realized that pace of P2 move very fast.
                    (compared to P1 honeymoon)
                    eg:
can't afford to miss school for 1 or 2 days in P2, else a lot of school work gets piled up waiting to be done, after return to school.
(last year P1 if miss school lessons a few days, never mind)

My friend was sharing with me that primary school teacher has KPI to meet. I was thinking if a particular teacher were to teach her P2 class and majority of her students go to the best P3 class, won’t this teacher meet the KPI and expect a big bonus or promotion? Likewise, if a particular teacher from a particular primary school were to produce top PSLE students, won’t this teacher meet his/her KPI too? This set me thinking that every teacher will prefer to teach in better class or better school then. And for this reason, teachers are willing to push and stretch the potential of their students to the maximum.
