Oven recommendation
-
We bought a cheap brand called Iona. Available in best denki. Cost abt $80. More expensive brands can stretch up to $800. We baked tasty bread, cake and so far so good. Not too sure what are the unique features in these the expensive brands but for us having a good recipe is more important.

I am interested to get an oven for baking cookies, cakes, grilling, roasting etc. I'm really clueless about which brand to get and how do I go about selecting an oven. Where is a better place to get oven. Pardon my questions as I'm really clueless when it comes to domestic issues. Thank you in advance if you can help me with my questions.
I am no expert, but I do have an oven and use it for baking. For me, the main features I look for is adjustment of temperature (all have this!), being able to choose top/bottom/both heating, and a fan (for even spread of temperature). Without a fan, some ovens will have hot spots and will give uneven results. For roasting, you can look for the rotisserie function if you think you might use it. Built-in ovens are usually bigger than table-top ones, so you need to decide how much you intend to bake each time. I have a built-in Tecno oven (about $600+) and so far it's works well (one year). -
Was recommended this because of its baking and rotisserie functions.

There is a newer model with pyrolytic function.
Am no good in the kitchen and this is more for my DD who enjoys baking so it has to be easy/ simple to use. -

Your link doesn't work? In general, I always believe in getting a more basic model with only the features you are likely to use. That way, there is less risk of things spoiling or the item being too complicated to use.Was recommended this because of its baking and rotisserie functions.

I'm using Iona too, quite big at 48L for just above $100 bought last year. Didn't want to spend too much as it was also my first time buying an oven. It's a local brand and for me the feature that distinguishes it from the rest of the similar price range ovens is the double glass door. Supposed to retain the heat better. Other than that the ovens of this price range function similarly. Just need to get to know your oven after a few bakes and learn to monitor your bakes and adjust the temperature if need to. -

Thanks slmkhoo for highlighting.

Not sure why it is not working but it is a Brandt. 7 cooking functions and has a turnspit as well. 60 litres so it is big enough to roast a turkey. Also has anti-tipping safety function which is useful for me.
I understand that De Dietrich have ovens with a timer function so that one can set the timing for the oven to start cooking before leaving the house and still be able to come home to a ready meal. Not sure about other brands. -

The Brandt sounds like it does the basics. I would be a bit cautious about the timer function - in our warm climate, having raw food at room temperature in the oven for several hours until it turns on may not be safe? Not sure why it is not working but it is a Brandt. 7 cooking functions and has a turnspit as well. 60 litres so it is big enough to roast a turkey. I have the De dietrich, this is the best oven I’ve ever own so far not that I’ve owned many, only 2. Haha…I’ve never got a chance to use the timer though. My last was a Ariston Chef 7 which lasted me 17 years.
Recommending a oven is difficult, it really depends on your usage, space and budget.
1Q : I was told De dietrich is French but my French friend says it’s UK. A check with Sg seller and they too say it’s French. Any idea? -

Seems like it's originally French, and the holding company is in France, but has now become an MNC.
