      At what percentage drop is generally acceptable ( at least to show kids have basic understanding) for the jump from p4 to p5?
      From what I understand, the initial drop will be at start of the year and the child should regain some grounds later. I personally feel anything below 80 percent shows lack of mastery. 20 percent leeway for carelessness, poor phrasing etc etc.

      For ds's weakest subject, I accept anything. 😂

      But come to think of it, I have been accepting anything for all subjects. I take test results as feedback on learning to see which areas need more attention. My kids have never been scolded for their results and ds2 came back last month to ask me why.

        The jump from p4-5 is wider compared to p2-3.

        The first semester or so is an adjustment period. Math especially, is challenging as numbers are bigger and topics get harder. Daughter is weak in guess and check. Every baby step should be celebrated.

          My girlfriend (whose daughter is at one of the branded schools) was told by teachers that there will hardly be any guess and check by P6 and in PSLE. Basically can throw away soon. It is a last resort method, so if your daughter can grasp other methods more readily, just focus on that instead.

            Not sure how to attach a certain % . I look at ranking.
            If child is consistently good in Maths but suddenly Maths result slip from best to worst performing subject, I think should be alarmed
            On the other hand, if Chinese consistently worst subject (among those 4 subject) and remained so, then that is no surprise

              Models up till p4 still very much required…some experience tells me as long as steps are clearly shown and answers are correct at PSLE, marks will be given.

                What is the avg range of score for P5 is considered "stable" for languages (Chinese & English). For my DS school, seems like only 10%-15% able to get Band 1 (85 and above)…thus those in avg of 70s what does this mean? Will they be able to acheive As for these subjects??

                    I read with interest on this topic and so relieved that I am not alone with my DD. She is in one of the top class but her grades dropped drastically.
                    Her usual Math test in P4 is about 85-90% and now it seems like she has a mental blocking. She recently scored 55% for her math test.
                    Having said that, I am still looking for solutions to help her to gain back her confidence. How long will this adjustment period last? How do you encourage your DD or DS to persevere?

                      I think 75-90 would be PSLE score...for her school, from P1-P5 Band 1 is 85 and above, Band 2 is 70 to 84, Band 3 50-69....Thus I am wondering if most are in Band 2, how does it translate to PSLE \"A\"....if she has say 75, does it mean A in PSLE and how to calculate T score if avg all subjects are with 75?

                        My understanding is that 75 is an A in psle. T score depends on cohort performance.


                        So on the paper 75 and 85 are both A, but the t-score will not be the same (both before and after adjusting for bell curve).
