          Hi all,

My child is 3 years old now and I am starting to scratch my head over which school to target. I am looking at relatively good neighbourhood school with relative good academic performance and more importantly interesting CCA and character education.

I am a catholic who lives in Yew Tee. My husband is from Zhengde, and my daughter is under care of my mother-in-law in Bukit Purmei.

With all those in mind, below are my options:
          1. De La Salle-phase 2B
          2. CHJI Kellock - phase 2B
          3. Unity Primary School (1-2 km)
          4. Yew Tee Primary School (1-2 km)
          5. Radin Mas (1-2 km)
          6. Concord (> 2 km)
          7. Zhengde (1-2km)

Would you please enlighten me which of these schools is better? What is my chance of getting into that better school?

Thank you so much for your time with my question.

          Pandamonkie.

            Pandamonkie.
of the 7 schools that you'd listed out :
            - only 2 schools are affliated to Secondary.

De La Selle : affliated to St Joseph Institution (SJI) Boys Secondary

CHIJ Kellock : affliated to St Theresa Girls Secondary

since your child is a daughter (not son), would recommend CHIJ Kellock primary, because of following reasons:

            1. affliation

when come to P6 PSLE -
having a primary school that is affliated to a Secondary school helps a lot : because mentally reduce a lot of stress for both parents and child, esp. if a child only average in studies.

            CHIJ Kellock :
is affliated to CHIJ St Theresa Convent Secondary for GCE O level, and subsequently affliated to Catholic Junior College, for A level.

            may refer affliation school listing
            http://www.kiasuparents.com/kiasu/conte ... ls-listing

this means that for the next 12 years from Primary 1 all the way up till A level, there is a smooth path awaiting her.

if your daughter perform very well in PSLE, next time -
she can go to one of those Top Secondary schools, in future.
She need not go to CHIJ St Theresa Convent Secondary.
But at least, she has a choice.

            2. being a Catholic school, with presence of convent nuns :
CHIJ Kellock help to impart good behavioral character values on Humility, Compassion, Kindness, Integrity, Honesty, politeness, graciousness and attitude, in the girls.

may let her attend early morning Mass Catholic teaching character moral values lessons, in school.

In a Catholic school environment :
tend to find the girls generally better, more well behaved.

            3. being an \"All Girls\" school : don't have rowdy boys, noisy distraction around.

Radin Mas primary and Yew Tee primary : academically, these two are strong.
Unfortunately, they are not affliated to any Secondary school.
Radin Mas is academically stronger than CHIJ Kellock.

not sure about Unity, Concord, Zhengde primary.
since your husband from Zhengde :
perhaps ask him to join those Old Boys association meeting in Zhengde primary, find out what's the progress made, so far in the school over the years since he had left his alma mater?

but if your child is a son -
would recommend De La Selle : because of the affliation to SJI Secondary. Many parents with sons often target De La Selle.

as for what interesting CCA to take up -
you need to go into individual school website, check what kind of CCA the particular school offer, also consider what interests your dd keen in : is it Sports, music, art, singing, dance, etc ?

different schools offer different range of CCA.

                Hi parents

                Which one would you choose?

Option 1: ex-student of a SAP primary school, current residential address to the school is approx 30 mins.

Option 2: staying very near to a new Primary school, neighbourhood school with no track records yet.

It depends on your child's character...can he/she take the pressure from SAP environment? If yes, then go for option 1.

Distance to school is an extremely important criteria in choosing a primary school. The time you save could mean extra sleep time for you and your child. This would mean your child is fresher for school since primary school hours are waaaay longer than preschool hours.

Option 2 makes the most sense if you don't mind neighbourhood schools.

                      Hi,

Does anyone know of single-session primary schools that end around 1.50pm? What are their recess durations like?

                      TIA šŸ™‚
