Raffles Interact (Year 1-4)'s Lunar New Year Dinner

The annual Lunar New Year Dinner organised by the students of the Raffles Institution Interact Club Y1-4 (RIIC) was held on 27 February in the Albert Hong Hall. The invitation went out to a total of 120 underprivileged elderlies from Care Corner Toa Payoh and Econ Healthcare, Bishan.

This reunion dinner was generously funded by the Raffles Community Initiative as well as the ‘Silver Friends’ Scheme (Central CDC, Singapore). This year, we were privileged to have the RI Chinese Orchestra, the RI Lion Dance Troupe and Year 5 students regale the crowd with renditions of classic melodies. A student calligrapher also delighted the elderly with his fine artwork. Guests performers also include Indonesian students from the Nation Star Academy, who were in RI as part of their RSP Programme.

My DS is checking in the hostel this weekend. A couple of queries on laundry to parents whose DS have gone through RIB already:

Bath and face towels- can these be washed by the laundry service?
Underwear and socks- normally does your DS bring home to wash or do they do it at the self service washing machines at the hostel? If yes to the second question, is it they would , for convenience, wash both underwear and dirty socks together? What do you advise them to do?
          Thanks in advance!

Bath towels: yes sure they can be washed.

Not too sure about face towels, I’d wash them with the underwear since I’m washing them in the washing machine anyway. The laundry form doesn’t have a field for face towel.
Since the laundry service doesn’t wash socks and underwear, most people usually wash them themselves in the machines. I washed them together with my other clothes, since a wash and dry would cost me $1 anyway.

My boy says can join new CCAs in Year-5 & 6.. But many prefer to continue their CCAs from Sec to JC..

                        This is NN's DS

The humanities subjects (lit, geog, history, etc) are open to all, regardless of whether they were taken in Y3-4

lit can be taken at H1 or H2 level but the school might not offer H1 if there's insufficient demand
