      EatNonStop:
Can someone advise what is SOTA JA about (Junior Arts Academy)? There are 2 days workshop in Mar during the school holidays but heard application only via school recommendation. What is the program like for these 2 days and will it be 2 full days??

Eatnonstop, try calling SOTA or ask your childโ€™s school about it. They should have the info. My child went for the dance junior academy and it is different - 8 weeks(if I counted correctly) of about 3 hrs each session.

Getting into SOTA is getting harder and harder each year as more students want to apply. Now you canโ€™t even get a chance to go TA if you fail the video audition for dance.

My ds was selected by his school to go to Sota for Junior Academy Chinese Orchestra music camp last week. Was surprise that the kids is able to do a \"small\" concert within 2 days training. All this kids are so good. ๐Ÿ™‚

The instructor mentioned that they will select few \"talented\" kids from this camp for audition through their respective school. Does it mean those \"selected\" student will confirm to get a place in SOTA? Or it really depend on the audition?

How does Sota train those \"Chinese Orchestra\" student, eg how big is a class for individual instrument? Is their Chinese orchestra group BIG? I always thought SOTA is more on \"western\" music hence quite surprise that they are also looking into chinese orchestra student.

No. It still depends on the audition at P6. Cognitive testing as part of the audition, also plays a deciding factor in the selection. JA does not have cognitive testing. SOTA conducts JA as a community service to the society. JA is not a selection program.

yep, i have to admit its quite hard. They also have junior camps (for p5 & p6) in June, or March which lasts for about 8 weeks (?) for dance. They teach both ballet and contempt. I'm a year 1 in sota and i went for that camp, they saw me and they said i could skip the process of the first audition and go straight to the 2nd on ๐Ÿ™‚

Not all ballet students get to go to JA because the schools need to recommend their students. For ballet students whose schools does not offer ballet as a CCA, they wonโ€™t have a chance to go to JA.

I thought there is only one TA. Why is there a first and second auditions?

Actually, your primary school doesn't need to have a dance CCA to for them to recommend you. You can just tell them that you are auditioning in sota and they will keep note! There is one TA but since there are so many people auditioning, they did a pre-audition for dance students so that it would be easier to choose during the TA / lesser people in TA.
