i briefly read the newspaper article, seems like a good plan for small investors, not too bad return rate plus flexible.

I wonder what is the govt 's objective to offer this?

Offer locals another option on savings?
I think it is more for mid-term tenure (>1 yr).

One of the main benefits is the guarantee of the capital. The other is the smaller amounts required.

Why is the Government introducing Savings Bonds?
\tTo provide individuals with a long-term savings option that offers safe returns.

                      Key features

                      Principal guaranteed

You will always get your investment amount back in full - no capital losses.

                      Invest for the long-term

You can invest for up to 10 years and earn interest that “step-up” or increases over time. The longer you hold your bond, the higher your return.

                      Flexible redemption

You don’t have to decide upfront how long you want to be invested. Get your funds back within a month, with no penalty.
