Some of the good enrichment centres have waitlist to get into K2 classes. Advise parents to start in K1, otherwise, come K2, all the places taken up. If the parents can teach, good. But what if the parents can’t teach and don’t know how to teach? This is just a suggestion for the child to get into the enrichment centre of your choice.
There is one super famous centre in United Square which charges like close to 1k per term for 1 single subject after GST for Headstart Programme. If you have the financial ability, can consider give that super famous centre a ring to find out their classes. -
Hi,i am new here.
Any comments on cleverland centre. -
Hi Parents,
I have an “Introduction to P1 Mathematics” class which will start in May 2013.
The group size is kept to maximum of 6. The lesson will be conducted in an engaging manner so as to cultivate a liking and enthusiasm in your child towards Mathematics during their developing years.
Kids who do not have a strong foundation for Mathematics will usually develop fear towards the subject eventually. Hence, it is crucial to bring forth this subject in the most interesting and motivating during the introductory period.
Lesson will be fun and engaging.
Lesson will be conducted at Punggol (3 mins walk from Punggol Mrt Station).
I can be reached at 9880 4280 if you need more information.
Rates are affordable. -
my daughter is in P2 and that's how i got to know the level of reading required when kids enter P1.
i'm concerned for my son who is in K1 this year and started him on reading program. he's coping weel so far and started to read. sharing my experience in coaching him on the http://www.mumsafari.com/category/learning-reading/ -
I think starting should be as early as possible.
my 5yo is able to pick up reading by 3ish.. really a comforting thing for us. but 2yo is avoiding..
I bring them to The Tots' Classroom and apparently, for 5yo kids.. they have this course that teaches the kids 'Natural Reading'.
For my boy, reading came natural but I thought it is useful for a lot of mommies out there whose kids are struggling.
I'm enrolling my 2yo to the language class as soon as she turns 3. You guys might want to check that out as well..

Hi Parents, my daughther will be in K1 next Yr, but it seems she still not so familiar with ALPHABETS / NUMBERS, staying @east area , any recommendation or affordable class that i can register her in.
:thankyou: -

Won't the kindergarten teach these things? Anyway, you can just read to her and show her letters and numbers around her at home, on signs etc. The more you point them out, the more familiar they will become. I don't think you need a class for this.Hi Parents, my daughther will be in K1 next Yr, but it seems she still not so familiar with ALPHABETS / NUMBERS, staying @east area , any recommendation or affordable class that i can register her in.

Also, kids develop at different rates, and at her age, not all kids are familiar with letters and numbers anyway. Even though I read to my kids a lot and raised them the same way, one of them read before 4yo without being taught, and the other only read at 6yo after I decided I needed to formally teach her (they didn't learn English in kindy as we were overseas). Yet the later reader is the one doing much better academically and both are keen readers (they are teenagers now). So there's no need to worry yet. Just show her how letters and numbers are all around and have meaning. -
Play the \"I Spy\" game with your child everywhere you go.
No need to get frustrated if your child doesn't get it right. You must be patient. Doesn't have to be long, just a few guesses to keep them interested. It is a game not lesson.
You can include other things besides numbers and letters. The child will slowly be surely be able recognize the letters and numbers.

How to play the I spy game? My child 4.5 yrs also prep him but lots of resistance in learning things. He tends to distract from what I wish to teach him or goofing around.

For kids like that, it may be more effective to follow his lead than impose our 'syllabus'. What I did when my kids were young was to have very general plans about what I thought they should be introduced at that stage, and find opportunities to work into our activities. It could be that we might be doing more Maths concepts for a period, and then move on to word recognition and phonics for another period, but it all got covered eventually. Your son may seem to be goofing off, but his attention may have been attracted by something that you can use to work some of your 'learning items' into while keeping his interest.
