let's hope that PM Lee HL will come to the rescue : at least, switch back to Bishan ITE as temp site.

can understand how the affected students feel, staying in Sengkang, Yishun, etc

At the thought of Mount Sinai and time taken to travel from Yishun, will cry! Cannot rent nor sell our place to shift there as I have another boy studying in the north. How??

          1. Exactly how many students will be affected by this delay? 100-300?

          2. The affected students should sign the Petition too, as they are the direct stakeholders, not their parents. Will be more compelling to the authorities if students themselves voice out their (must be valid) concerns. Pls don't portray yourselves as over-protective guardians of 17-18yo teens who fret over the latter carrying heavy bags under the hot sun and commute to Buona Vista MRT at the expense of rest.

FYI, several hundreds of CHS and SNGS Sec 3-4 (O level cohort) students were badly affected when they had to suddenly relocate from Queen Street to Bishan and AMK respectively in the 80s. Many didn't live near to Bishan and AMK then but still had to take the rickety bus to those far-flung new towns for O Levels.

          3. Better still, get willing affected students to email directly to PM, LTY, HSK.

          4. Any of the petitioners dating each other to go find the MP overseeing that area where the new campus will be built?

Try going to Hri Kumar (MP for Bishan-TPY GRC, possibly the MP for that Sin Ming-Thomson-Marymount precinct). https://www.btptc.org.sg/Meet%20the%20People%20Session/MPS.htm.

          Blk 313 Shunfu Road,
          #01-287
          S570313

(Every 1st Tuesday of the month)

If it's not him, it could be Ng Eng Hen (I know he takes care of Shunfu). Hri Kumar the young lawyer is more proactive/garung/vocal, imho. Other Bishan-TPY MPs meet people every Tues at 8.00pm.

          5. Print out the petition with comments to show MP. Why only a few names appearing, out of 200+ signatures?

          6. Another group go find Mayor for Central CDC, Denise Phua (incidentally the same MP for Rochor that was helping displaced residents)

          http://www.pa.gov.sg/our-network/community-development-councils/central-singapore-cdc.html

          7. Why not meet AMK GRC MP? The site is not within the GRC boundaries, methinks. Of course those SNG/CHS kids staying in AMK can still go ahead and lodge a feedback there too.

8i. To ask MP if it's possible to get LTA, URA, MOE, SLA to hold an exclusive engagement session with affected parties. They had helped gather these public servants to speak with affected residents in the past.

ii. To get MP to pressurise LTA to start the semi-tunnel digging phase at Sin Ming Ave earlier. The NSE will be built in Phases from 2015.

iii. To appeal to MP to file a PQ for MOE/MOT in next sitting.

iv. To inform MP if no one budges, parents may seek help from SPP or WP shadow Education MP. WP conducted a recent walkabout in Bishan-TPY GRC. :scared:

          v. Last resort, to send TOC or any comparable sociopolitical website this scoop.

          9. Forum writer Jonathan Goh raised some good points abt SJI being the bottleneck. And one http://www.straitstimes.com/premium/forum-letters/story/spare-students-the-inconvenience-travel-20150429 too.

          i. To ask MP to talk to MOE to see if SJI could expedite their tender process or move to Mt Sinai as suggested by some. [/color]

It's ridiculous for SJI to take so long to commence their tender exercise.

ii. To ask authorities if there's any chance of SJI taking over the old RGS campus at Anderson Rd from 2018, when the girls move to their new campus at Braddell? 🦆

iii. Or to consider the old MATA academy at Whitley if it hasn't been demolished yet to make way for Mt Pleasant MRT? SJI could go over there and vacate Bishan ITE?

iv. Or how about the one in AMK used by Rosyth School last year?

          10. Are those 3 forum letters in print copy or ST Online? If you send to ST Online, no one will respond. Must send to ST Print version.

Meanwhile, the larger scheme of things (i.e. the \"大局\")is what the MP / Mayor / PM have to look at too, before committing anything. Even the brainiest scholars cannot control certain external variables that are disrupting the entire timeline, regardless of the no. of cross-agency meetings they hold mthly and the no. of rotten tomatoes you throw at them. Soil is just one of them, as I've unearthed last week. :nailbite:

The no. of students immediately affected vs the rest of the population affected by the NSE Mega Delay will be taken into account, before any exceptions are made, I suppose. Lemme guess: the authorities might ask if the relatively small student population's needs are more impt than those of residents and landlords who will be losing roofs over their heads or valuable plots in lieu of this national project.

            Every stakeholder:

            1. Needs to be aware some affected condo MCST tussles have not quite been settled.
            - Castle Green in Yio Chu Kang
            - The Nuovo in Yio Chu Kang
            - The Seletaris in Sembawang
            - Boon View
            - Thomson 800
            - Tresalveo
The http://www.straitstimes.com/news/singapore/housing/story/price-condo-land-acquisition-case-comes-under-debate-20141006 is still pending? These \"bottlenecks\" might have caused the delay of the construction by 2 years, if I'm not wrong. Media reports once stated 2013 as the date of commencement, but nothing's been dug yet. :scratchhead:

            2. Needs to understand some Marymount Terrace semi-D owners might/not move out by early 2016 due to pending appeals. 😓 Some have filed appeals against the agreed payout? This haggling has gone on for a few years between the freehold property owners, lawyers and SLA. I understand they have up to 2 years to vacate their property after the lands' been officially acquired. I dunno how near these houses are from the campus site...but still, good grief...

            3. Needs to see if those Kallang BTO flats will be completed by mid-2016 as promised by HDB. https://sg.news.yahoo.com/leaving-rochor-centre-a-heartbreak-for-residents.html (many of whom are very old long-time residents) need to shift out so NSE construction for that stretch could commence.

            4. Needs to be sure that NOISE and AIR pollution, plus the detour to get to the campus, is bearable for A Level students from 2018-2020 near the new campus site, even if it was ready for occupation before 2018. This is because the points of ingress/egress of the semi-tunnel are smack right in front of the campus/Vicom/CityCab building at Sin Ming Ave.

Residents of http://www.theonlinecitizen.com/2011/04/lta-overlook-nuovo-residents-concerns-on-nse/ at YCK had earlier complained to their MPs abt these hazards. Will the authorities argue that might pose some health/safety problems for students if they move in prematurely, while heavy construction is still ongoing nearby?

            5. Needs to ask kids if fraternity and solidarity is more impt than proximity. Regardless of what publicity (or \"ruckus\") well-meaning parents intend to generate on behalf of their kids, take care not to inadvertently slam your kid's alma mater as a nightmarish place to be at (and affect her COP and drive up COPs of others that your younger DC might be eyeing on!), because it is NOT.

            6. Needs to convince MOE that new JC kids need more time to rest and prepare for A Levels, as compared to students from DHS, NUSH and RJC who also lived in various parts of Singapore but had accepted similar arrangements before. 🤷

            7. Needs to anticipate a counter-question like \"Are your kid's predicament more distressing and needs more critical than that of: a) http://news.asiaone.com/News/AsiaOne+News/Singapore/Story/A1Story20111220-317281.html and b) http://www.straitstimes.com/breaking-news/singapore/story/good-shepherd-sisters-bid-adieu-marymount-centre-after-64-years-201403 Homes' sickly and elderly folks?\"

            8. Needs to check with LTA if construction for that stretch along Marymount could commence earlier (Phase 1) , or need to wait for northern and southern belts to kickstart first? Need some civil engineers to answer!

But if all things fail... :xedfingers: :siam:

If nothing else can be done to salvage the situation :
MOE show allow those badly affected pioneering batch students (esp. those staying in Yishun, far North, Punggol, Sengkang, in the east, etc) PRIORITY to transfer to another Junior College of their choice, before JAE students come on board, so long as the other JC are willing to take them in.

otherwise, SJI should shift out, let the pioneering batch occupy Bishan ITE campus

Dear Parents of CHS, SCGS, SNGS,

We are a group of CHS, SCGS and SNGS parents, frustrated by the latest MOE decision of the new IP JC location. The decision is irrational, irresponsible and lack of transparency. MOE owe us an answer.

If you have the same feeling, please join our group. Send your email to [email protected], we will contact you via email. Let's group together to seek MOE explanation.

We hope to receive email from CHS, SNGS and SCGS parents only. Thanks.

                  Rgds,
                  Administrator of the Group, HS

I understand it is rather effective leaving comment on FB of the relevant ministers. HSK LTY etc.

To date, just how many petitions have been responded and listen to ?.

Unless you have the intensity and severity (eg like withdrawing applications) of the Sengkang collabarium issue, this one will be just another passing \"hot\" potatoes.
