      Jennifer:
      mashy:

The new strawberry generation is born.

I do not think it is a new strawberry generation.

It started when parents start driving/fetching their child to/from school.

I chose to move house to be near the school my children go to. My children are definitely strawberries.

Bravo!!... to admit you are a strawberry 'farmer'.

But please do not send your boys for thorough body check-up to find fault in them for National Service downgrading purposes. It seems like the norm now. You may think it is :siao: but I ever witnessed parents who are overjoyed when the physicians told them their strawberry son has a physical problem that will warrant him a downgrade in NS.

      Sorry :offtopic:

Can't deny retention is a good solution to improve on a school's performance.
        Pros and cons.

It does ensure that the A'level results look good but their A'level students spend a year more than others. It's a strategy to improve their A'level results to attract better students and hopefully, with better students, their retention rate can revert to the average rate of 10%.

Retention to improve the A levels ? It simply means the calibre of the intake lah. Why 3 years to do the A levels ? Might as well go get a poly diploma which is more employable.

It was not that long ago when we still had Pre-U centers that took 3 years to complete the A-levels.

Different strokes for different folks, some take the A-level route in the hope of getting into university easier while others could be more suited to the poly route.

I think 3 years Pre U Centres are good.

Anyone knows why JCs are 2 years (with everything all cramped) n Poly 3 years?

if have to spend the same amount of time (3 years) :
might as well graduate with a specialized Diploma, makes the student more gainfully employable

They all conspired to give birth to tuition industry.

Nowadays no one stops at A levels or Poly.

The final destination is a degree.

because Polytechnic courses are specialized : with industry attachment to expose students to gain real industry experience, once students graduate, can contribute immediately to workforce.

in contrast, \"A\" level course (2 years) is still very theoretical based.
only after enter University, choose a specialized degree to study, then can glean relevant, practical industry attachment exposure.
