I will never dictate that my helpers cut their hair or not be allowed to colour or rebond their hair. This is something that is very personal. Worse if employer insists that maid has short boycut hairstyle while she keeps her flowing locks, rebonded and coloured. If only short hair can meet hygiene standard, employer should be sporting that hairstyle too unless she does not handle her own kids at all.

Yes I will insist on proper hygiene like them having to bun up their hair when doing their work and to wash it everyday. Only if they repeatedly fail to maintain an acceptable level of hygiene then will I suggest that they cut it shorter.

Of course if they come back with bleached hair and a punk cut I will question their decision.

Different strokes for different persons. In the corporate world, different companies have different dress codes. Likewise, different household have different standards for their maids.

For me, since I keep my hair undyed and short, I expect my maids to keep their hair short too for hygiene (especially for maids who prepare meals, imagine finding long strains of hair in your soup) and ease of maintenance reasons. It simply cannot do for me to keep my hair short and undyed while my maid have flowing locks, rebounded and colored.

All my helpers had long hair.

I do recall that for one of them, I initially used to find strands of hair. After talking to her and informing her that if she did not step up in her hygiene practices, I will take her for a hair cut. I had no issues after that.

The current one actually had waist long hair. Only recently did she tell me that she wanted to have her hair cut as it was getting too warm.

In fact, with this current one, I have had to replenish my hand wash bottles in the kitchen quite often but I am not complaining.

It’s important that we communicate to the helpers our expectations (except for the basic fundamentals, I have lowered mine over the years!) right from the start and follow up with them constantly and consistently.

At the same time, these expectations have to be reasonable too.

I used to keep my hair long and because it take more to maintain it, I now keep it short.

As I do not provide maid with a hair dryer, I often wonder how they dry it each night after washing or do they sleep with damp hair every night.

I do notice my maids spending more time in the bathroom experimenting with different hair styles once they start keeping their hair long. And sometimes I need to replenish my shampoo more frequently.

I also find long strands of hair in food sometimes as compared with short hair.

My maid keeps short hair. She has her haircut every 2 months. I pay for her haircut. She is happy to keep it short. I’m happy to pay also.

I provide hair dryer cos she prefer to wash at night.

Hi. I need advice on how to handle my maid. She wants a transfer though it is only 1.5 years. She was my ex-maid who was with me for 3 years.

I do not mind to let her transferred but need time to find a new one. She keeps pestering me and quarrelled with my mum and purposely made a lot of mistakes.
                    Any recommendation of responsible agency?

Be firm. Tell her that she needs to give you time to find a new maid. In the meantime, she needs to make sure that she works as per normal. Any more slacking of pestering, you will send her to the airport directly cos she is in breach of contract.

                        Thanks for the advice.

I have heard of stories when maid refuse to enter the plane. If that happen, what can I do? What can MOM do?
